I am actually pleasantly surprised. This is a pretty nice blend. Perhaps my favourite so far along with Compass Box Spice Tree. A good blend.
    • Nose
Sherry, caramel, dark fruits, sugar. Quite nice and interesting nose. Like a bit "dirty" Arran 10. Some more sour notes though.
    • Taste
Pineapple, a bit rubbery though, chewing gums, apple. I do not feel that hint of peat. It is just a tiny bit "dirty". It has that Talisker spiciness.
    • Finish
      Apples again. Chewing gum. Caramel.

  2. LDB scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

I like this Johnnie Walker because it comes with a calm smoke and spice mixture, which, together with a slightly fruity oiliness, characterizes the balance of a successful blended malt. Can be used without any problems for uncomplicated drinking enjoyment. :)

Quite a passable JW, sweet, quite sharp.
    • Nose
      83 83
Sweet notes of prunes, yellow cherries, with cinnamon, pepper, burnt oak.
    • Taste
      82 82
Sweet, with sharp tones, dried fruits.
    • Finish
      82 82
      Sweet, a little tart, short-lived.

  4. NXI scored this whisky 81 points Member Senior

This whisky matches the color of its label, but not my taste, offering a rather woody and bitter profile.

  5. Gweddry scored this whisky 83 points Expert Senior

    paprika malt
    • Nose
meadow honey, elderflower, smoke trail, broth, apples, malt, monkey shoulder, apricot compote, mirinda
    • Taste
bitter, peppers, onions, citrus, pepper chips
    • Finish
ground pepper, trace of ground chili, flowers

  6. craide scored this whisky 82 points Expert Senior

I like this older version of the 15 better, although it is not a revelation either. But in terms of taste, nose and palate are balanced.
Significantly better in the oral cavity. The finish also harmonizes better with the taste. Quite round and balanced.
    • Nose
      82 82
Sweetish, slightly fruity, slightly smoky, pleasant vanilla, a little caramelized sugar, dried fruit after raisins, plums, appears mint-fresh after a while. Add to that wet wood, herbs,
    • Taste
      83 83
Tingly hot, smoke is a bit more dominant here. With some fruit like ripe banana, oranges, peaches. Subtle sweetness from honey that is increasingly covered by smoke. A bit of oak spice with chocolate, it is not alcoholic, hardly any bitterness, taste much better.
    • Finish
      82 82
Medium-long finish, some chocolate, coffee, smoke decreases significantly here, the spice also decreases noticeably,

  7. PEATYBOI scored this whisky 86 points Expert Junior

A mellow and extremely easy going blend. Characters of the distiller as stated on the box (Caol Ila, Talisker, Linkwood) are not really apparent. Quite a watered down version of 3 distilleries if I must say so. Nonetheless, a decent blend for daily drinking.

Maritime, slightly smoky, at the same time fruity with Aapfep, pear, vanilla and caramel.
    • Taste
      82 82
Salt, smoke, again fruit and caramel.
    • Finish
      81 81
Mitellang with smoke, salt and caramel.

So far the best of the tested Johnnie Walker blends
    • Nose
Sweet and fruity. Smoke is there. Caramel and herbs. Vanilla, bourbon
    • Taste
Sweet, spicy, spicy and fruity. Honey, malt and vanilla. Slightly dry.
    • Finish
Seasoning, spices, malt, smoke, bitter oak

A mature, very neat blended malt!
    • Nose
      Sweetness (sherry, caramel), delicate smoke, fruits, fine spiciness;
    • Taste
      balanced, seasoning, gentle smoke, oak;
    • Finish
      medium-length, complex finish;

  11. Moses scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

From the point of view of the PLV, this is a buy recommendation. You also lose the impression that it is just a blend. Peppery smoke reminiscent of Talisker. Just noticed :-)
    • Nose
Malty sweet, spicy and leathery with a pleasant smoke. Light citrus note with light fruits. The vanilla comes through now too. Peppery even before it starts. Class !
    • Taste
You could say full pipe pepper and earthy leather. The smoke immediately combines the sweetness with orange peel and malt. Delicious ! This is a dangerously drinkable blend with enough complexity for the price. Good choice. A masterpiece.
    • Finish
Medium to long and very balanced. It is slightly bitter and peppery on the palate. Afterward, very pleasantly chocolaty sweet and with a small plate of fruit, he leaves the stage.
      I like the !

pleasing with great PLV - pronounced fruit and Holtnoten - very complex for a blend
    • Nose
      86 86
Delicate orange with lemon peel, mango, glue, furniture polish, fresh juicy oak, vanilla cream - interesting, very fine and with depth
    • Taste
      84 84
Oak cabinet wall, sweetened tobacco, citrus notes, marzipan, sweet with a hint of acidity - delicate bitter spiciness with a hint of licorice and very distant smoke
    • Finish
      84 84
herbaceous creamy oak with birch water-menthol note, refreshing peppery, slightly astringent.

  14. whiskyinstitut scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

A very nice blend. Especially for the money. Reminds me a lot of oldschool blends.
    • Nose
Malty and vanilla, but also very orange sweetness, subliminal ashy smoke, the oranges are very juicy without bitterness, jelly drops
    • Taste
Malty sweet, mild onset, again the juicy oranges, the oak is there, already spicy, creamy
    • Finish
The orange sweetness dominates, directly very warming warm, slight bitterness on the palate

  15. Goethe scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

This Johnnie Walker is quite complex copared to the Red and Black Label. The version (2012) seems more mature and got more different fruits in its charakter compared to the 2015 version. The 2015 version got more smoke and pepper on the palate but isn't quite as fruity. Though it's neck and neck. And for the money a lot of good whisky.Concerning price/performance ratio: 10/10
    • Nose
Smoky, caramel, vanilla, yellow fruits (citrus fruits, unripe apples), peppery malt, some honey.
    • Taste
Slightly smoke, citrus fruits (lemon and a lot of oranges), apricots, stewed apples, yellow gummy bears, some leather notes.
    • Finish
      Medium. Fruits, chocolate, some pepper.

    N-
Brandy soaked cherry at the front, follow by toffee and toasted malt.
Evolved to marine cold stone mineral and touch of mossy, decay notes of
salted fish. Heat build up overtime with spices coated dried fruits. P- Creamy and oat meal sweetness. Well married with soft and balance
flavours. Roasted coffee bean with sweet dates. Frizzy soda. Dry
    mouthfeel but lightly spirity.

F- Smooth and thick, bristling sensation expands to fresh oak and woody aroma of new book.

Veil of light smoke, black pepper, woody veil, vanilla and clove tip. Aqueous texture, caramel and a green side (hay, grass). The finish is short-average and has a slight astringency, pepper is still present. A reasonable dram no more, in my opinion the black label has a better value for money.

For me this is a pretty straightforward 15yo ex-bourbon scotch.  I don't think it's any better than, say, Glenfiddich 15, and it is more expensive/harder to source where I live (mid-Atlantic US).

PLV was or is both great, for 15 years and blended Malt, the old complacent, mass suitable, the new a bit snappy, apparently made more for the Talisker fans (is also the most common pro-argument, what you hear - Pssst, there is Tailsker in it, 15 years old!).
After some time in the glass, the two become more and more similar.
    • Nose
      Parallel tasting 2012 vs. 2016:
old: very sweet and pleasing, honey, malt, toffee, a little orange, peach compote, only very little smoke, dry, inconspicuous
new: here the smoke is clearly in the foreground, dirty, organic, in the background malt and caramel sweetness, overall more intense
    • Taste
Here are both much more similar: tasty, round, a hint of orange / peach jam, malt, toffee, milk chocolate ... then clearly the smoke on the tongue, earth, leather, pepper, the new a whole lot more intense, sharper, bitter
    • Finish
medium long, old: very balanced between chocolate sweetness and bitter / peppery, new: the bitter again and sharp after

I'm so lucky I live in Taiwan where this is still readily available everywhere for only around $25USD (no joke).

I'm thinking of stockpiling some. Good idea?

I have been on the hunt for JW Green Label for a while, scouring the stores and mom and pop places. Well yesterday while sitting in a restaurant, my eyes peered upon a bottle and I though "no.. can't be" and sure enough it was a bottle of Johnny Walker Green Label 3/4 full.

I asked if I could buy the entire bottle and got it for 25,000 colones ($45.00) I was excited that I have finally found a JW Green and proceeded to pour everyone at the table a wee dram to give it a try. The entire table loved it.

Last night I then had my first real taste after warming up the tongue with some Grant's Special Ale Cask edition.

Nose - Fruit, spices, vanilla, caramel, maple syrup, hint of peat.

Taste - Leather, peat, pear.. lots of pear, apple, malt, cereal, fruit, pepper, earthy

Body - Good body and has some good legs on the glass.

Finish - an earthy peaty finish that dissipates into a apple pear then closes with a ham maple syrup lingering.

I have to say that I REALLY enjoy JWGreen Label. My wife and I sat out last night and watched the sun go down and both went well together.

It is exciting to finally get to try this and I feel like I have accomplished  a treasure hunt in finding this open bottle. It also feels special to be able to drink a brand that is no longer made and one appreciates it so much more because of that. I will continue to keep my eyes open for bottles at bars and restaurants and continue being the "dusty hunter" looking for the un-opened bottle of Johnny Walker Green Label.

If you ever find an opened bottle, snag it. If you ever find a un-opened bottle, save it for a very special occasion with dear friends and family.

Taste: Silky soft, fruity (apple, orange), aromas of barley (malt), delicate smoke, well balanced
Finish: Balanced and long, spicy sherry sweetness
Rating: A bit more complex than the Black Label, a bit more expensive but not better. 82 points

Nice whisky, easy to drink with a little bit of everything. Yet not too demanding.
    • Nose
Fresh, sweet fruits. Gentle from the beginning. A hint of peat, less than I would have expected.
    • Taste
Starting smooth and sweet. Then some spiciness and quite some bitter oak. Very little peat.
    • Finish
Medium-long finish. Not dry at all. Some peat stays behind.

JW Green Label, blended/vatted malt whisky: This one is being discontinued in most countries. For me it`s not that I am going to miss it. It is good produced, don`t get me wrong, but I just don`t find it exciting and worth it over their other products. I think is has been blended with too many malts which makes it available for the wide public, but very flat in flavour. Nothing realy stands out. In my humble opinion, although blended scotch (with grain) the Black and Gold Label (try to find the old Gold 18 yo) are more exciting from JW.

If you are looking specifically for blended malt whisky I can recommend Compass Box. They produce some great malt blend whiskies (and blended Scotch) for around the same budget.

    Subtle and beautifully balanced.
    • Nose
Full, mellow and elegant. It starts quite restrained. Tangerine, soft chewy fruitiness with apricot jam. Smoky seaside aromas and a custard creaminess and baked apple/ginger with water. Phew.
    • Taste
Soft with good silky/waxy mouthfeel. Cooked apple then heathery smoke. Superb balance.
    • Finish
      Heathery.

15 different single malts are to be united here, including Talisker and Cragganmore. For me it is flat with little character. An easy-to-drinking vatted malt (or better blended single malt)
