Whisky Reviews for Laphroaig Lp12 ElD

6 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 87.32 points

    Notes by producer;

    This is a marriage of two refill and two sherry Laphroaig hogsheads, distilled in 2014 and aged for more than six years. This is a dram full of sharply medicinal notes, accented by layers of wood smoke and a touch of fruit. 1672 bottles produced.

    Tasting Notes;

    Nose
    Burnt toffee cake and cigarillo smoke are followed by the scent of a just-opened first aid kit - bandages and iodine.

    Palate
    Honey-roasted parsnip mingles with smoked, crispy bacon. Lots of brininess and some dried figs combine nicely with well integrated bonfire smoke.

    Finish
    Ash and orange-dark-chocolate along with a touch of thyme. Thick, dense wood smoke remains.

  3. vlad78 scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

    A young, bright, aggressive drink.
    • Nose
      Smoke, a recognizable profile of smoked melon and apples, a little smoked fatty fish, soot.
    • Taste
      Sweet, oily, with smoked pear, melon and apple, with pieces of ash, alcohol content.
    • Finish
      Bright, burning, smoky, oily.

    A good, rounded chimney. Although it contains spirits aged in sherry barrels, they do not greatly affect the overall picture. In blind tasting, I would rather bet that this is Lagavulin, the profile is very similar.
    • Nose
      Soft, peaty. Creosote, medical tourniquet, charcoal potatoes, citrus fruits, candy sweetness. Somewhere nearby, almost ghostly, a trail of fresh berries.
    • Taste
      Smoky component, there is much more of it here than in the aroma. Light berry acidity, oak.
    • Finish
      Long. Smoked mackerel, berry sourness, lime.

    Successful bottling that doesn't show the young age. Better than many OA bottlings.
    • Nose
      88 88
      First coal and wood stove smoke. After a few minutes, a phenolic component is added: iodine, the well-known medicine cabinet, salt. In the background, exotic, yellow fruits.
    • Taste
      88 88
      Slightly peppery to begin with. Nutty, medicinal. Phenolic peat smoke. Malt and ripe, yellow fruits. Again sea salt.
    • Finish
      87 87
      Ashes, becoming spicy. Also fruit sweetness. Medium to long.
