Heating that brings out the sweetness of butterscotch
It seems as if the sweet wants to get sweeter and sweeter.
And that lingers on the tongue for quite a long time

next to an older original bottling
This one is much fuller and certainly this one from TBB has a much longer finish.

    Intimate Dance
The new Dutch independent bottler The Barrel Baron has just released his second bottling. I’m proud to say that I was asked to taste it before the cask selection was made and like to think my appraisal had something to do with it. The label is also a nice sequel to the previous release’s, which I also enjoyed a lot. This was is equally good! It’s a single cask – a sherry butt – on which the spirit of Glenrothes has slept for just over a quarter century.

The nose is immediately very seductive with yellow plums, gooseberry marmalade, caramel, apricot pastry and frangipane. The distillate really shines and has withstood the influence of the sherry cask just fine, making it bright and sweet without the sherry dominating.

Despite the strength, the arrival is very soft. That too is the quality of the spirit. Oily and mildly spicy. Think ginger, cloves and a single chili pepper. The fruit keeps it nicely balanced with sultanas, mirabelles and baked pineapple. Again the sherry cask and the distillery’s DNA have an intimate dance, without the partners stepping onto each other’s toes. Very good!

The finish is sweet, long, mildly drying and very satisfying.

Stunning Glenrothes. Great cask choice, Marcel (and proud to have been part of that).
