Mentholated to start. Red delicious, a bit of sweet herbs, strawberry mints. Strawberries became slightly fresher, caramel, orange peel. Salty dried fig, Li hing mui, then got sweeter. Fruit black tea. The apple freshness came back again. Candied lemon from the emptied glass.
    • Taste
      87 87
Raisin, dried prune, red apple with tiny bit of sourness. Purple grape with skin. The sour dried fruitiness is nice.
    • Finish
      85 85
A splash of sour dark fruits. Fruit tea, blackcurrant, grape seed bitterness, Ribena. Ended with grape seed and branches that displayed some sort of dry woody bitterness.

The bottling is okay, but there is much better from Glenallachie. Quite dry, a lot of pepper at the beginning on the palate. You have to like that.
    • Nose
      83 83
Takes some time in the glass. Dark chocolate, vanilla, orange, walnut, sweet grapes and heavy red wine. Raisins.

Behave pure. Even a few drops of water do not change that much.
    • Taste
      85 85
Peppery to begin with. Then dark chocolate, orange zest, almonds. Grapes and sherry. Quite dry.

A little water makes it more pleasing, the pepper takes a back seat.
    • Finish
      84 84
Will be even drier. Dark chocolate and oak seasoning. Short to medium length.

schokoladig, Trauben, leicht vanillig, fruchtig z.B. Ananas

Glenallachie has always been a bit left out. In recent years we have been inundated with bottlings. Fortunately, I am slowly starting to become a fan of this brand.
    • Nose
      86 86
Sherry and Rioja are clearly present. Fruity, vanilla, honey, dark chocolate and grapes.
    • Taste
      86 86
Very fruity, grapes, dark chocolate, slightly bitter (tasty). Alcohol is present, but not disturbing.
    • Finish
      84 84
Short finish, the same elements return.

Unfortunately a whole class worse than the 2008 Cuvee.
    • Nose
      84 84
Surprisingly subdued nose: heavy aromas of red wine, spices, cherries, alcohol very well integrated
    • Taste
      67 67
Very strong - spicy, a lot of European oak. A big sip makes the bitterness "boil over". Too much, hence devaluation
    • Finish
      86 86
Fortunately, the bitterness is gone and leaves aromas of cherries, raspberries and spices
