A bit monotonous, on the palate also a bit too powerful. Not that I was expecting much, curiosity outweighs it, but the youth and the imbalance are clearly noticeable. You don't always have to make more of it than it is - 02/19/2022
    • Nose
      83 83
Vanilla, cashew, bread crust, peppery spice
    • Taste
      81 81
Fruity, nectarine, chili heat that lasts a long time and overstrains the palate, but biting spice towards the end doesn't really come
    • Finish
      82 82
Medium long, the bitterness is overwhelming, insipid dark chocolate

  2. Ostap scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

Perceptibly restrained, quiet aroma. The profile is rare, interesting. For 4 years, just an outstanding result. It definitely makes sense to watch the releases of this distillery.
    • Nose
      87 87
Berry pie, smoke, bitumen, resin, home, fruit jam, a light touch of sherry, baked apple, coal dust, hay, farm notes with cows, vanilla, marshmallows, oak, marinade notes, slightly spoils the picture of cardboard (the only manifestation of youth ).
    • Taste
      86 86
Ash, pepper, noticeably meaty, citrus, vanilla, juicy fruit.
    • Finish
      86 86
Sour, bakes, knits, keel apples, bacon, malt, ash, dried fruit, longer than average.

Dalmunach is a recent addition to the Chivas/Pernod Ricard portfolio, built upon the site of the Imperial distillery in the Speyside.

Although I don't particularly look for barely-legal young malts, I must say I caved in from the curiosity I had. Overall fairly drinkable and feels older than the age states, but I would wait for some more years. As the capacity of the distillery seems quite large, it should become both much easier to acquire and more affordable in the upcoming years, I would assume.
    • Nose
Young sherry, dried herbs, almonds, prunes, vanilla
    • Taste
Cherry, cacao nibs, blood orange, average texture, some pepper
    • Finish
Dark chocolate, below average in length, some oak, caramel
