Whisky Reviews for Inchgower 14-year-old

2 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 82.45 points

  1. wisekycourse scored this whisky 81 points Connoisseur

    nose:
fruity, vanilla, caramelized, pastry, buttered even
    sweet spices and malt
    mouth:
malty blend, fruity on white peach and orange fruits, creamy vanilla again
trace of bitterness on the almond
    tannic wood, intense peppery spices
    final:
creamy, vanilla, sweet, more on a blended with a mixture of diffuse scents that undermine the quality of the distillery

[September, 2021] Out of curiosity I do a sampling of all new Diageo "Flora & Fauna" series releases. Older bottlings have been of a chequered quality with some highlights (e.g., Mortlach, Dailuaine, Benrinnes or Rosebank) and some sub-standard stuff...

...and this new edition belongs like all other (so far) to the sub-standard stuff. Mainly "composed" out of completely leached casks which did not support the maturation of the malt at all this dram does not offer any interesting aromas or flavours. Another one for the spittoon, sorry Diageo.
    • Nose
      78 78
The colour is again pale straw (like all other I tasted so far) and the nose offers nothing of interest except the bitter smell of exhausted casks. This is comparable to the disappointing, almost non-existent nose of the Teaninich - where are the malt aromas? Even after significant breathing time nothing happens in this nose and I wonder if any master blender ever sniffed at this batch. If so, how could you dare to release it?
    • Taste
      79 79
The taste is even worse than the Teaninich with almost no flavours to catch at all - beside some barley sugars. I stopped tasting this sample after the second sip because of frustration. Why should I risk my liver cells for such an unimpressive drink?
    • Finish
      76 76
The initial mouthfeel is ... almost non-existent (like the nose). The finish is short as a lightning and adds nothing. Water does not help in anything. This is a dram which matured for 14 years? Give me a break!
