Whisky Reviews for Glenmorangie Port Wood Finish
5 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 85.07 points
- The flavours are not quite steady;
not very deep;
somewhat flat - especially compared with the Madeira Finish from the corresponding vintages;
but all in all quite pleasant ...
Port wine, barrel, cherries, little plums, caramel(pudding), some chocolate, espresso powder, some cappuccino, nearly apples and pears, tobacco, red grapes, idea of (orange blossom) honey, a little window cleaner besides the alcohol
quickly becomes syrupy, sweetness - tartness - a bit sour (idea of citrus), Port barrel, light pastries (Bisquit?), apples, leather, wood, caramel sweetness has difficulties to get through, later chocolate and coffee
medium finish - gently and slowly warming, tart (very tart), barrel, wood, port wine, gingerbread spice, apple peel, becoming dry and bitter
- This is an earlier bottling than the distillery`s current port wood finished
expression, Quinta Ruban, and it`s really quite different.
Lots of fruit - dark cherries, prunes, dates. A slight earthiness from the port
perhaps. A pleasant malty sweetness.
Smooth and sweet. The brighter notes normally found in Glenmorangie are definitely subdued, but it's very nice.
It's in no hurry as it eases itself off your tongue with more soft, dried fruit sweetness
