A competent peated Bunna which will appeal to those with a sweet tooth. I like the mouth feel, with its oily richness. One of the better value malts from the Feis. Nicely balanced, peat smoke, fresh maltiness, and good casks.

  2. WhiskeryTurnip scored this whisky 88 points Expert Senior

This dram had an excellent balance between a meaty maritime peat and the fruity chocolate influence of the Bordeaux wine casks. The nose on this promised a barbecue and the flavor profile absolutely delivered. I thought it was fascinating how a few drops of water curved this around toward pastry notes and the sweet delicious impression of a cinnamon or chocolate babka. The chocolate notes of the wine cask really began to come through after water was added.

    Mental Image: Cascadia Shoreside Bonfires
    • Nose
Meaty, smokey, and maritime. Seafood barbecue by the shore; grill smoke, sea shells, meaty fish, and roasted pork. There was a sweet edge with notes of sticky dried berries, chocolate, and an herbal sweetness of burning pine or dried pinecones. Salty ocean air, calcium minerality, and wood smoke like a bonfire by a coastal log cabin.
    • Taste
Medium to thick and oily with notes of smoke, meat, and caramelized sugars. Smoke billowed off a charcoal grill pit with meaty notes of roasted pork and Chinese duck— sweet caramelized skin with licorice notes of anise, black pepper, and slightly medicinal herbal spice. Mild maritime salt and fruit with jujube red dates, wolf-berries, and cacao nibs. Malty chocolate and cinnamon babka emerged with a few drops of water.
    • Finish
Long and lingering charred fruits and charcoal.

Nose This is... Pete. The phenolic odor is quite strong. Alcohol is also good. There seems to be a faint scent of grapes in it.
The full body of the palette has a tangy taste, grape-like sweetness, and a bit of acidity. I can feel a little bit of the boona spirit I ate yesterday. soapy?? The more I eat, the more wine-like taste. I wonder if this is moine.
Quite a long finish followed by a finish
Overall Review: Delicious Pete Whisky. However, it is a pity that I do not know the other feelings because it is covered by the feet. The nose and finish are deductible points, but the palette is strong and covers

  6. gossm01 scored this whisky 89 points Expert Senior

It has an oily viscosity and its bouquet is relatively intense. I have aromas of pleasant maritime peat smoke, raisins, red fruit, malty sweetness, ash, vanilla, pipe tobacco and dark chocolate. Moderately complex. Relatively sweet in taste. The alcohol is well integrated and it has a relatively heavy body.

Very pleasant youthful nose. The alcohol pushes slightly, but the overall picture is really quite harmonious.
Very delicate smoke, sweet and sour fruit notes. Dark grapes, ripe blackberries, black currants, raspberry syrup, vanilla, fine oak spice.
    • Taste
      89 89
Powerful start. Slight greasy smoke, some ash, more currants (black and red), very dark chocolate, blackberries, brown sugar, oak spice.
      Overall very nice and tasty.
    • Finish
      87 87
Mid-length finish. Ash, forest honey, blackcurrant.

  8. Goethe scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

What a sweet winy peat monster. So much chocolate and dark fruits lingering around those ashes.
    Concerning price/performance ratio: 8/10
    • Nose
Peat, a sherry wine sweetness, dark berries, overripe blueberries, chocolate with wild honey, some maritime notes in the back, amarena cherries.
    • Taste
Peat, some red wine notes, dark berries, some pepper, maritime ashy mouth feeling.
    • Finish
Long. Peat, cherries from a wine cask, ashes and some nougat.

Palate: burnt crumpets and brown butter, roasted butternut squash
Finish: cinder toffee and cinnamon buns, oily mouthfeel, toasted brazil nuts and a liquorice sauce

    With water
Nose: toasted pine nuts and marrons glaces, cappuccino and manchego, glue paste and baby sweetcorn
Palate: lingonberry jam and creosote, boiled nettles and dark chocolate
Finish: raspberry sherbet and redcurrant jelly, pink peppercorns and a tarred rope

A very young and powerful wine barrel finishes with smoky bunahaben
    • Nose
      84 84
      Smell the fragrance: Heh! The tannins and woody notes of this wine, plus the aroma of raisins, blackberries, strawberries, blueberries, spices and cocoa powder, are like boiled mulled wine, but it also has the aroma of bacon;
    • Taste
      81 81
      Entrance: very strong tannins, dark chocolate and raspberries, smoky and grilled, very hot, very salty;
    • Finish
      81 81
Ending rhyme: The tannins are too strong! The feeling of mulled wine is more obvious, especially the long end, spice, this is a glass of mulled wine!

  23. the_muskox scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

A really interesting peaty whisky. It’s young and brash and dry, without very much in the way of sweet winey notes, but the peat is also rather mellow and earthy in its character. There are some great meaty savoury notes in there. I don’t think I like it quite as much as last year’s Moine Amontillado Finish, which seemed a bit more rounded with the finishing cask.
    • Nose
Sweet smoke, fresh and bright. Slightly tart fruit – lemon, apple, red berries, and rhubarb pie. Smoked pork with a vinegar-based barbeque sauce, or perhaps extra-greazy chorizo tacos. Oregano, brown sugar, and just a little ginger. Reconstituted dried mushrooms (extra-savoury), cooked veg, and a bit of iodine.
    • Taste
Medium texture. Arrives dry, spicy, and tart. Warm build with savoury grapes, coffee, toffee. Develops to a very vegetal, savoury, earthy, and slightly carbolic peat smoke. Earthy spice, punky driftwood, leather, and seaweed. Musty earth and warm spices (clove, star anise, ginger). Sauteed black pepper and root beer.
    • Finish
Long, smoky and quite dry. Beachside bonfire, charred driftwood, bacon, seaweed, and mushrooms. Lurking grape skins and dry red wine. Cayenne- and ginger-spiced chocolate. Lingering fresh leather and sea salt.

Bulky young smoker, I have already experienced Bordeaux ripening much better at Bunnahabhain, also a bit too angular for me without the barrel sanding over it, a shame, but already quite drinkable, you complain at a high level ;-)
    • Nose
Very ashy smoke that almost scratches your nose, slightly cinnamon, red currant, slightly sweet, very direct and the flavors come with full force, a good portion of acidity, also has a hint of unwashed socks, including some dark chocolate, ok but rather whole milk , and the ash smoke lays over it again and again, quite neatly, I have to briefly think of the chewing gum advertisement with cherry and mint, a hazelnut ice cream is running somewhere
With water it changes, lighter berry, fresher, floral, oops, now a touch of sulfur, interesting, I like it almost a little better with water
    • Taste
A dry veil covers the mouth, massive, ash, smoke, greasy, caramel, red berries, quite dry, the second sip starts with dark chocolate, the berries are there again, creamy, now the cinnamon, if you keep it in your mouth for too long he tends to burn something
With water it is creamier, more oily, but more restrained in taste, but it doesn't burn any more, so you have to decide what you want, basically with water rather on the lighter side and very little smoke, ready, hardly any chocolate
    • Finish
The whole mouth is taken in, still very ashy, slightly numb, a bit of cherry with a hint of sweetness, slightly grassy at the back
Dry with water, coated mouth, slight acidity, little substance

Conclusion: nice Feis Ile bottling, I like it better than the Marsala
    • Nose
nice smoke with great red wine notes such as raspberry and pomegranate, some vanilla, fresh grass, light saltiness, very subtle lovage note, lemon, you notice the youth and the alcohol, but you don't mind
    • Taste
amazingly creamy, great red sweetness, then the peat smoke breaks in, subtly salty
    • Finish
long and intensely smoky, red fruit, clove, a little pepper on the back and no bitter notes

    • Nose
Leather, lychee, coconut, brussels waffle, orange peel, and a BBQ smoke in there somewhere. With some water, the nose turns even sweeter, grapes, candyfloss, cassis, and the bbq goes to the background.
    • Taste
Taste: Arrival is feisty, very sweet though, chewy, then lots of tobacco, and spices, and bacon in the development and finish. Smoked fatty juicy pork bbq. It has a lot of power at this high strength. With some water, the nose turns even sweeter, grapes, candyfloss, cassis, and the bbq goes to the background. The arrival is more pleasant then, still not a lot of definition at first, but that comes suddenly in the development with lots of blue and red fruits before we return to the honeyglazed juicy pork and the cigar tobacco and the cashew nuts in the medium long finish.
    • Finish
Tobacco, and spices, and bacon in the development and finish. Smoked fatty juicy pork bbq. It has a lot of power at this high strength. With some water: honeyglazed juicy pork, the cashew nuts, and the cigar tobacco in the medium long finish.

It's really fun. Its youth does not bother in the least, well-coordinated, long-lingering aromas.
    • Nose
Greasy and fruity smoke, including grape jelly, raisins, black currants. With fresh green twigs it shows a certain youthfulness, but it doesn't look bad at all. White chocolate, white coffee, pepper.
    • Taste
Despite almost 60% with a very pleasant start. Hand-warm caramel candy, fudge, marzipan. Milk coffee and cocoa. Not too intense peat smoke as a pleasant companion that supports the other aromas. Over time, black cherry and blackberry jam.
    • Finish
Medium length, actually, a thank you and a tool time greeting to the peat smoke. But there's more: nougat, caramel, cherry, blackberries, a little thyme and rosemary.

  38. g00se scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

I haven't had such a sticky malt in my glass for a long time. It is only very, very late that a multitude of small tears are released.
The wine barrel outweighs the aroma too much. If you like that in combination with smoke, go for it. Nice to smell, rather less to drink.
    • Nose
      87 87
A nice smoked ham flag is blowing towards you from afar. When you get closer to the glass, the smell changes. Now rather fruity wine notes dominate: wine gum, unripe blackberries, red fruit jelly. I only notice a slightly cooling effect from the alcohol. Nice nose, no missing notes or anything like that, but I miss something distinctive and independent. It could also be a ballechin from an ex-wine barrel or sherry barrel.
    • Taste
      85 85
Pure at first very fruity only to drift off instantly into the bitter. Once there it becomes very astringent, then the alcohol numbs. A gentle chew dissolves the smoke, but hui it is far too strong on its own. Mamamia
Unfortunately, he's not a good swimmer either, so he seems somehow watered down at the start. Only to then drift off into the astringent, then bitter.
    • Finish
      86 86
In the medium-long finish, initially peaty smoke, then the wine barrel dominates. Haa nice, a light salt note. So this is where the Bunna character hides. Just to be swept away by fruity-smoky aromas.
The finish is similar with water, only the smoke becomes more dominant.

A very good malt in my opinion, which I will enjoy again and again. It doesn't cause any rapture in me, but I book it as a very well-crafted Bunnahabhain.
    • Nose
      89 89
In my perception, this dram does not initially offer any "explosion" aromas, but fruity, sweet and slightly hidden citrus-fresh notes. Images of freshly harvested red grapes, plums and raisins come to mind. I perceive peat very little, as well as oak tones. Everything a little restrained, but very pleasant.
    • Taste
      90 90
With the first drops that wet the tongue, I experience a powerful, voluminous dram with a beneficial oily consistency, pronounced fruity sweetness and a peatiness that I can now clearly perceive. Towards the end it gains in sharpness and oak tones.
The addition of water does not lead to any further perceptions - you can do it, but you don't have to!
    • Finish
      89 89
The reverberation is clearly peppery, oak-accentuated and sweet - lasts for a long time.

This one is lovely! Especially after having been quite disappointed by the Feis Ile 2021 Marsala finish. The younger sibling is definitely in another sphere.

The nose strikes you with this typical Bunnahabhain Moine smoke, which I like a lot. The alcohol is quite present but not too dominant. Additionally, the influence from the Bordeaux cask is quite present but not overpowering at all - we found a bunch of berries (blackberries and raspberries) paired with some light vanilla ice cream. I also found hints of dough and yeast wreath. There's also something herbal to it, as well as freshly cut branches and some grass. Lovely!

The palate is "very moine" with this superb and gentle smoke. I added some water quite quickly and was rewarded massively. The red berries are still there and reminded me of a mix of blueberries, raspberries and red gooseberries paired with some yummy salted caramel.

The finish is dominated by a herbal cigar smoke, which keeps lingering for quite a while until finally the berries find their way again. The finish is not too complex but I like it a lot!

88 points altogether for the Bunnahabhain Feis Ile 2021, 2013 Moine Bordeaux Finish. This is the quality I expect when thinking of Feis Ile and even though it's still very young and spirit forward this malt knows to convince.

Since 1881, we’ve been making exceptional single malts at Bunnahabhain, during which time we’ve welcomed plenty of visitors to share the fruits of our dedication to traditional craft. That same spirit of friendship has now inspired us to create this exclusive malt for the 2021 Fèis Ìle.

Carefully matured inside our peaceful coastal distillery, its golden depths swirl with gentle notes of oily peat, rich spices and dark grapes, intertwined with just the faintest hints of cocoa and warming chilli. As well as lingering on the tongue, its delicately balanced flavour lives long in the memory – just like Islay’s famous festival.

Young smoke and wine barrel almost always go together for my taste. Here it has entered into a really great connection. Sweet and savory smoke turns into a buttery texture with refreshing fruit notes. Bomb!!

FunFact: Much to my friends, ordering on the Bunnahabhain website works without any problems. In addition to shipping and service, I didn't have to pay any other customs fees (to DE) (https://bunnahabhain.com/product/feis-ile-2021-2013-moine-bordeaux-finish/) and the bottle was there in less than a week !
