    Comparative tasting
2004 Velier Import vs 2021 OB

This one is less pronounced, slightly more aggressive on a nose, yet a very solid daily sipper.

Thanks to Hwisky Nut, can't wait to share a dram after war!

      Blender`s Glass:

more varnish on a nose, more new wood, pungent, less sherry influence

      Enigma Glass:

Immediate punch of a hot caramel fudge, seasalt, dried figs
    • Taste
      88 88
sweeter, like grape juice sweet, less peaty, more hot tar and ash, medicinal, bitter chocolate, burnt cigar, this one is calling for a few drops of water. Black currant and dark berries.
    • Finish
      88 88
Unpleasant bitterness and a little sourness at the end probably due to the use of a sherry seasoned american oak cask, finish is shorter. Good whisky nonetheless but not the same as it used to be

    Balance (22)
    Great for basic US (88)
    • Nose
The aroma is initially crumbly, a lot of bourbon, peat, cowshed, vanilla… a little citrus.Typical for modern Ardbeg (22)
    • Taste
Sweet bourbon flavor, fruit and vanilla with salty iodine sauce (22)
    • Finish
The finish continues the taste, bourbon, smoke, lemon. (22)

2004 is more peaty, frankly creamy and fruity. The nose speaks more of bourbon aging, but there are hints of wine on the palate. There is no end to the aftertaste. The aroma of Port Charlotte lives in an empty glass, with some kind of ooh ....go in the wine finish.
2021 is simpler, there is noticeably less peat, but a whole bowl of cucumber marinade, dried prunes, a barrel feels good (with virgin) ... it even sometimes resembles strong bourbon.
    2004 - 23/22/22.5/22 = 89-90
    2021 -22/21.5/22/21.5 = 87
In the end, I want to say that the modern release is noticeably younger in content or is it an add-on. exposure in glass so affected? Well, again, in modern times, aging in the new American oak is visible!?

Maybe I'll be biased even after two ledaig ... but it still remains delicious. Not as rich in aroma and taste as before. 21.5-22-21.5-22

Great yellow gold color, the peat smoke doesn't come across as intrusive. The coffee notes and the taste of sherry round it off perfectly.
    • Nose
      Perfect
    • Taste
      Exactly my thing
    • Finish
      Beautifully powerful and long-lasting.
