Thanks to ronnholt for the sample.
A very different take on rye, not bad just different.
    • Nose
      87 87
      Sweet woody notes.
Lots of fruit, almost tropical, but also a hint of light red berries.
Very little spice for a rye.
Some herbs. Quite complex and definitely pleasant.
A little water reduces what was of the 48% alc fumes as well as mellows the herbs. Kind of pulling everything tighter together. More red apples with a hint of zest.
    • Taste
      84 84
      Also sweet on the arrival.
      Then bitter herbs.
Followed by wood and a modest amount of spice.
Water reduces the sweetness but enhances about everything else.
    • Finish
      80 80
Spice carries over into the finish, where it is actually most noticeable.
Not sure if it is the wood or the herbs, but something gets a little too astringent for my liking.
Somehow saved by a minty freshness.
With water everything is toned down considerably, most noticeable the far less astringent feel.

The Danish distillery also seems to be really good at distilling rye whisky. Strong spiciness with herbs and appealing coniferous aromas, clear notes of rye and a bit of fruit offer everything that rye whiskey friends could desire. Maybe a little bit too much resinous freshness for my taste, but all in all another good product from ''Stauning''.
    • Nose
Spicy aromas of warm coniferous forest soil, mountain pine and conifer extract like in a muscle relaxation bath, resinous spruce needles, there are also herbal notes, sage and buckhorn, a little mint and a hint of thyme, a hint of dill is also present, in addition to this vegetal side there is a mixture made from fresh sourdough and a crispy baked rye bread crust, strips away some more fruity hints of claret jelly and freshly sliced immature star fruit, the oak shows a slight green tinge behind its charred surface, minimal vanilla and brown sugar
    • Taste
Combined with a small dollop of fir honey it hits the palate very spicy and oily, with time a slightly chalky mouthfeel develops, the crusty rye bread has been in the oven a bit too long and has scattered charred spots, burnt brown sugar, a little dill and Thyme, mountain pine and plantain cough drops are sucked at the same time, a drop of stone pine oil, allspice adds peppery clove aromas, licorice and resinous oak, a hint of vanilla, a small hint of menthol wafts through the oral cavity again and again
    • Finish
Adequate length, some charcoal and resinous oak sap ensure a certain bitterness, then the spicy fir honey in combination with vanilla softens the event, peppermint tea heavily sweetened with brown sugar, the last remnants of the burnt breadcrumbs are pricked out of the wisdom tooth, sweet-tart cough syrup with buckhorn extract and a small amount of clear apple as a finale

    Earthy, oaky, medicinal.

  6. FritzeKrautman scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

It starts off rather subdued, but then builds up a nice complexity. Rye influences present on the palate. The alcohol could be better involved
    • Nose
Vanilla, dextrose, light rye flavor, cereals, rice pudding. Getting a bit sour, tobacco, old leather armchair, coconut, black tea.
    • Taste
Spicy, chocolate, tea, tobacco, alcohol slightly tingling.
    • Finish
Medium-long finish with spiciness, slowly increasing sweetness and a hint of ash. The alcohol is somewhat intrusive.

Honey and sweet grapes, a bit floral.
    • Taste
      82 82
      The floral remains, herbs.
    • Finish
      75 75
Herbs and a little bitter. Almost like a herbal brandy.

Maybe it's the rye, but with this basic taste I think of vomit, terrible. reminiscent of a Floki

  9. Sporx scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

    Aroma
Sweet, spicy, rye, fruity wood spice

    taste
Sweet, spicy, vanilla, herbs, a bit young for me

    finish
Medium length, further nice light spice, sweetish, mint

  10. Tom na Gruagaich scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

it reminds me a lot of Canadian rye, like Lot.40., strong, different, a lot of rye, but still a pleasant, ripe side from the barrel. Far from bourbon, but also far from extravagant, but only if but you don't see Rye as extravagant anyway. I like it a lot, the way it is, could be a bit smaller from the price label (unfortunately that's still an issue), but it's a very spicy, good rye. Like.
    • Nose
At first surprising, a little burnt wood, but then fresh and fruity, slightly medicinal notes, the herbaceous rye notes finally come very clearly, accompanied by gentle vanilla, some cloves and fresh oak. Sweet, spicy, fruity and ripe.
    • Taste
warm, but very pleasant mouthfeel, honey, vanilla before the rye spice and the fresh wood apply the tart, peppery notes.
    • Finish
first black pepper, pleasant tingling, green, spicy rye notes, a bit tart, also here mint, then more on oak. At the end more bitter with a slightly fruity touch.
