Whisky Reviews for St. Kilian 2016

3 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 84.20 points

  1. ARDBERG scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

The special german virgin oak brings a distinctive wood character. To use an old Laphroaig slogan, this likely is the fine line between love and hate..., tastewise...

Time to air the dram is absoluetly recommended - the oak seems to fade a bit and fruity rum like notes come into the foreground. All in all quite a full and dense body, something to be savoured and experimented with and not for everyday drinking imho.

I like the idea of refilling the emptied 70% of the cask with new spirit. The result in 5 years time should be containing less wood flavour and even more fruity notes ...

    Official info from St. Kilian:

Barrel No. 1 made from the Palatinate St. John's Cross was specially made for St. Kilian and marks the hour of birth for Germany. Our first brandy made from unpeated barley malt from St. Patrick's Day 2016 was allowed to mature in it for 5 years. The result is a fine single malt whisky with a pleasant sweetness, the aroma of rum raisins, fine vanilla and dark fruits. You should not miss this very special and very limited bottling.
