Nose: Rich, slow-melting vanilla ice cream gives way to black cherries and almond cake. Fresh pineapple and papaya soften the enveloping aromas of peat, salty sea air and medicinal hints on antiseptic-infused cotton bandages. A classic Islay with heavy bourbon influences and an interesting PX twist.

Palate: Thick dark chocolate with roasted almonds, mild mocha, sweet raisins and lingering hints of sea salt and peat. After swallowing, the taste notes develop in a maritime direction for a short moment. The caustic notes fade away in a swell of cigar smoke and beach barbecue over charcoal and creamy vanilla and sweet, sugary sherry liqueur.

Finish: Long-lasting peat with notes of alcohol-preserved cherries, buttery dark chocolate, sweet coffee confection and sea oysters that build up over time.

Rather unusual on the nose for a Laphroaig. All the more recognizable as such in the mouth. In my opinion at least on the same level again Laphroaig 10 Sherry Oak (WID:178663)

      Peaty, smokey and oak spices.
    • Finish
Has some considerable heat to it.

  4. KB201 did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

In May 2013, Laphroaig gave its bottlings a new look: since then, the packaging and label have appeared in a new, modern design. This is the new edition of the PX, the special variant of a triple wood whisky that has been sold exclusively in travel retail since 2012. First stored for several years in first-fill ex-bourbon barrels, the whisky then spent several months in quarter casks before finally maturing in ex-Pedro Ximenez casks.

Great Laphroaig for a nice cool evening. Brings the aftertaste, then the aroma, the taste is the best. There is some imbalance in this.
