Whisky Reviews for Glengoyne 1990 Amontillado

2 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 89.83 points

  1. p4blo scored this whisky 93 points Expert Senior

Wonderful, complex and extremely rich, well, youngster.
    • Nose
Reminds me of Kavalan Solisth sherry cask expression. Similar depth and meaty intensity of flavours, almost like sherry rather than whisky. Thick molasses, soy sauce, balsamico, stewed fruits, dark chocolate, espresso. Some mushrooms too.
    • Taste
Molasses, demerara sugar, stewed prunes, raisins, berries. Cocoa, roasted coffee. Very rich and vibrant. Blood oranges.
    • Finish
Long, bitter, drying on espresso and dark chocolate.

  2. Whisky-Connaisseur did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

This is a very luscious dram. Sherry shines through all the way with
great fruitiness and elegance. Well aged and complex. A must have for
    the hard core sherry aficionados.

    • Nose
Big, muscular sherry character. Full with dark fruits, plums and
apricots. Waves of flavours coming and going alternating with demerara
sugar, dark chocolate, marzipan, herbs and polished antique wood.
Elegant intensity, rich and bold. You can nose this all night long.
    • Taste
Wow, this one blows you away! Bulky and sweet with a massive hit of
sherry. Dark fruits, plums, apricots, Sevilla oranges and brown sugar
blend well with bitter chocolate, espresso and vibrant old oak.
    • Finish
Very long and lingering. Sweet, warm and fruity with a dry oaky spiciness. Mouth-coating and slightly astringent.

WITH WATER: Water tames the sherry sweetness with oak, spice and herbs coming to the fore.
