I must admit, I felt slightly disappointed when I poured this dram in the glass. There was absolutely nothing there, and I wondered if things would turn for the better. Patience my friend, patience. Half an hour later, the ball started rolling so to say.

Typical mild sherry nose with raisins, dark fruit, nuts and milk chocolate. Things improve by the minute and to me this may last all afternoon.

Strange; on one hand I believe it is slightly watery. On the other hand it is quite waxy as well. Could have been better at a higher abv. Plums, cherries, raisins and mild spices tickling the inner side of the mouth. Dusty old taste.

      88 88
Medium long to long finish. I would call it the return of the Jedi - finish is better than the taste.

    WhiskyNote.be: Blended Malt 19 yo 2001 (44,2%, Thompson Brothers 2021, sherry cask, 434 btl.)

Nose: we’ve seen these 2001 casks before of course. Raisins, milk chocolate and latte, as well as pancake sauce and a brighter note of red berries. Light coppery touches. Hints of pecans and cigar boxes. A wee hint of shoe polish as well. Really nice.
Mouth: a fruity, slightly tart start again, evolving towards chocolate, walnuts, gingery notes and leather. Raisins. Plenty of marmalade, with light earthy and meaty notes in the background. Chocolate coated candied orange. A few herbal drops as well.
Finish: medium long, with fruit cake, raisins and orange peels.

A very classic sherry profile. I always look for a certain fruity acidity and it’s certainly present. One of the best casks among these 2001s. Very drinkable, a true card players whisky, as we say.

One of the best “2001 Blended Malts;” Classic Sherry notes, plus blue and red berries, mixed nuts, and a touch of citrus and maybe old leather. High recommendation.
