Whisky Reviews for The Fiddichside 1989 MM

9 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 90.09 points

Amazing 31-year-old Glenfiddich, teaspooned with a drop of Balvenie. For the price especially, hard to beat. Very rare to find an 'affordable' 30 + years old Glenfiddich, let alone one that has seen a finish in PX and Oloroso barrels, terrific combination. Much recommended, thanks Drambo!

    • Nose
Fruity, delicate, sweet on the nose
    • Taste
Fills the entire mouth, crispy fresh, orange summer fruits again, perfect ABV. The sherry finish is working here!
    • Finish
Medium long, very pleasant and fresh, here you can tell the age of 30+ years. Overall excellent.

The Glenfiddich is fine, fruity with a pleasant spice and a long finish. Round, sweet and just delicious.
I gave myself an extra point in memory of Joe Brandi and the Glenfiddich Inn. It was the best place, the best bar with the best host in Scotland. It is a shame that you are no longer with us and thank the bottler for filling him with a good bottle in his honor.

    shop info:

"The Fiddichside is a blended malt from the kegs of the independent bottler Murray McDavid. The Fiddichside Inn is a well-known whiskey bar in Speyside that was run by Joe Brandie. After Joe passed away in 2017, Murray McDavid decided to dedicate a bottling to him.

The 31-year-old malt matured in two types of sherry casks: six months in a PX sherry cask and two years in an Oloroso sherry cask. "

What a beautiful whiskey this! Delicious sweetness and yet very refined.

Blended/Vatted Malts, 13 tasted, H2H, for what it is worth the 1979 Berry's although listed as a blend on the label, I am not alone in thinking it is actually really a vatted malt.

Quite a light, zesty nose, hints of lemon, pastry and stroop waffle.
The palate is a little creamy with a big blast of spice and some peat but not very sweet.
Fruit wise it is stewed plum & gooseberry and there is some sweeter fruit trying to get out but the spice checks it.
    Balance is good.
The finish is where this picks up a few points, long, warming, fades slowly on stewed fruit & cream.

It would have got 90 points if the palate was sweeter

Amazing fruit bomb with a lot of spicy notes as well. It all starts on the nose and gets carried further on the palate. Heaps of yellow fruits, honey, caramel, vanilla and chinese five spices. The PX and Oloroso finish does this one a lot of good, but the influence of the bourbon casks this matured in shines through. No overly active casks used. Finish is long, warm, oily, fruity and spicy. Lasts for a long time.
