    Nice, pleasant dram. Fruity, quite powerful, some nice sweet and floral notes.

      Quite some alcohol noticeable, fruity, some sour touch, citrus and flowers. Some vanilla sweetness and a whiff of coconut now as well.
      Later on less alcohol punch.

      Quite powerful, pepper. Fruity and sweet, citrus, orange.

      More smooth, and I seem to discover a smoky whiff now. Pepper, some fruity bitterness, orange zest. Medium long finish.

    Kinky Fruit Salad

    Eaglesburn, the Dutch micro distillery run by the good natured Bart Joosten, has released a Double Wood. This whisky, distilled on 13th October 2017, matured on a ex-bourbon cask and was then finished in virgin oak. As Bart is wont to do, he bottled it at 47% in 20cl bottles – in this case on 27th April 2021.

    The virgin oak is immediately obvious on the nose and turns this malt into a kinky fruit salad. Apples, pineapple and even a hint of kiwi. Then a candy-like note of Haribo bears, candied oranges and chocolate shavings, but at the same time quite spicy on nutmeg and cinnamon with a hint of liquorice (anise). Finally a hint of speculoos and grainy wood. This is good!

    Oh, yes, nicely piquant upon arrival with bitter oak, cloves, nutmeg and even some saffron, immediately followed by salted caramel, orange marmalade and floral honey. Good body and strength.

    The finish is long on bittersweet fruit (grapefruit and mandarin) and warm spices.

    Bart keeps going strong and clearly uses good wood.
