One of the better Kilchoman's I've tasted so far. A little better than this year's bottling for Feis Ile!
    • Nose
      87 87
Smoky appearance, bourbon, quite alcoholic at the beginning with notes of fresh lemon, vanilla and dark chocolate (85%).
    • Taste
      88 88
The smoke, the bourbon casks and a sweetened coffee taste come first. The chocolate is slightly lighter (70%) and has a slight maritime saltiness. The alcohol is better integrated than I had suspected in the nose. Later herbs are added, some lovage.
    • Finish
      85 85
Medium-length smoky, dry, herbaceous finish. Unfortunately, the bitterness lingers on the palate a little longer.

  4. Kantenmechaniker scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

Great whisky, one of the best Feis bottlings of recent years. The sherry casks give a nice kick to the otherwise rather dominant bourbon casks.
    • Nose
Wow does it come across as smooth, sweet and creamy with lots of vanilla and cinnamon, smoked bacon, slightly sour, shortbread, rarely had this butter cookie note so clearly, you have to smell something into it for the sherry, but it is there, chocolate, coffee, this coffee Mercisticks, the sherry becomes more and more dominant once you get the hang of it, slightly citrus, even dark fruit, but I'm still hesitating between plums and raisins, but the longer I smell it, the more clearly it goes to the raisin, very exciting and varied, the Ashy and slightly spicy smoke hangs over everything, now it's going into a very citrusy phase, almost like a lemon tart
    • Taste
Starts with apricots, sweet, vanilla, cinnamon, strong smoke, biscuit, then the sherry also delays here, creamy, dark, salt, raisins on the palate, sweet, nice combination, great mouthfeel, is a lot of fun in the mouth
    • Finish
Sparkling, sweet, apricot, salt, a little smoke at the back, but all the more creamy, slightly dark, but here the bourbon barrels are wearing the pants

A bottling that once again shows what good whiskys Kilchoman now produces. They are in no way inferior to other Islay distilleries and even surpass many in my opinion.
    • Nose
This whisky is immediately recognizable as a Kilchoman: vanilla paired with hay and a smoke that is somehow reminiscent of a stable. Nevertheless, the whole thing is very fresh and after a while herbs and mineral notes are added.
    • Taste
In the taste, the smoke goes towards ash. In terms of taste, I find slightly bitter citrus notes from kumquats. The mouthfeel is wonderfully velvety.
    • Finish
You will also find the mineral notes in the finish. The whisky lingers in the mouth for a long time and leaves a taste of cough drops.

  10. Dram Dracula scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

The nose is a bit tight, but it has a warm mouthfeel, dense peat and a nice layer of ash and smoke, with sweet lemons, honey, and cherry cough drops from the sherried barrels. The finish is somewhat short and a bit of a downer, with some chalk and cardboard at the end. I don't feel like this is one of the better Kilchomans out there, and perhaps not on par with some of the more exciting single casks Kilchoman produces.

Nice kilhomaniac. Don't give 8 years. Very rich, spicy and tart.

  15. Fight65 scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

Atypical Kilchoman bottling that convinces with subtle smoke notes. The bourbon barrels dominate. Successful Feîs Ile bottling that works without water.
    • Nose
      90 90
Great nose with subtle smoky notes. It is dominated by a complex blend of herbs with an overdose of anise (Pernod Ricard).
    • Taste
      89 89
Here, too, the herbal mixture is enveloped in a gentle veil of smoke. In addition, mineral salt and pepper notes.
    • Finish
      88 88
Medium long and slightly dry but not annoying. Citrus fruits and a slightly smoky, peppery finish.

  16. vlad78 scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

A good balance of selected butts and barrels, a little smoke and a full palette of fruits and dried fruits.
    • Nose
      90 90
At first it seemed to me that barrels dominated: yellow apples, pears, a little mango and vanilla. But then, through the smoke, dates, prunes, cinnamon and a extinguished candle appear.
    • Taste
      91 91
The taste is very bright, sweet and rich. It is impossible to distinguish the predominance of some dominant element: they replace each other, as if descending a staircase. Smoke and dryness are perceptible, but not persistent.
    • Finish
      90 90
Very long, sweet, bright, the kind that you don't want to part with. And it stays with you for a long time.

  17. Dramming Dutchman scored this whisky 91 points Connoisseur

A lovely dram which I got from a friend. At first nose for me was 89 but after a drop of water it opened up and wow, a lot to discover now so I adjust it to 91. A mouth full of taste, also 91 and a long waxy finish 90. This is the best Kilchoman I have had so far, wonderful dram.

Peat smoke, can still burn green grass, vanilla, honey, pepper (spices), citrus. I liked it. 22-22.5-22.5-22

  20. Cask1988 did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

In 2017 I’ve visited this idillic distillery on the far west of Islay. It caught me since that day but somehow every time I wanted to buy a few bottles and/or samples I ended up buying different stuff. But...Finally...this week I pulled the trigger and bought 14 samples and 1 bottle of Kilchoman. Time for an in depth liquid tour of what this distillery can produce! This is number I don’t know how much but what a superb bottling this is!
    • Nose
Wow this is a lively and dimensional nose! Bourbon & sherry influences are flipping the coin regularly. The nose gives a full bodied experience! It’s waxy and oily giving sweet influences like honey and peach, spices like licorice and ginger powder. Sultana’s, nuts and raspberry are responsible for the sherried side of this nose. All the way the mild and earthy peat smoke is present as well. It’s being exactly spot on. It is never dominant nor used to cover up notes that supposed to be there
    • Taste
On the palate it’s high level of experience continuous! What a complete and full flavored dram this is! After just 9-11 years. Balanced, multilayered and a great reach of flavor! Tropical, nutty and some hints of dry oak. Again the peat smoke is spot on!
    • Finish
This finish seems to be endless. It’s waxy! Candle wax. Along side of that I get red and tropical fruits and baked cashew nuts is what remains at the end.

Well this is a delight! Probably the best Kilchoman I drank! Well done!!

  21. Archer scored this whisky 91 points Connoisseur

A really great Fèis bottling. The bourbon barrels dominate, which I personally very much appreciate.
    • Nose
      91 91
Very, really very appealing nose with just the right amount of smoke, which on the one hand is not overloading and on the other hand is not too subtle. The bourbon barrels are clearly dominant, with pineapple and lemon cake as well as vanilla, rapeseed honey and milk chocolate. A mild herbal mixture adds flavor, as does the pinch of pepper and the grated nutmeg.
    • Taste
      91 91
Strong, but still velvety soft start. The herbal mixture takes precedence on the tongue, followed closely by warm peat smoke and smoked pineapple slices. With roasted orange slices, lemon zest, milk chocolate, soft fudge, fresh yeast dough. The smoky note hovers over everything, but like in the nose, it is not too dominant.
    • Finish
      90 90
Medium to long, still creamy, hardly dry. Warm peat smoke is now drawing in a little, still fresh pineapples and lemons, coffee beans, hardly any herbs.

Eight 100% Islay casks, two 2011 oloroso sherry butts and six 2012 bourbon barrels. The casks were filled with 20ppm 100% Islay spirit distilled from Optic and Publican barley.
