These ‘new’ GM bottlings are rather priced up unfortunately. This is withholding me to buy them in lot’s of occasions. But then off course, exceptions are everywhere and I have to say this is one of them. Exceptionally well matured.
    • Nose
Candystore! Sweet but well matured and with a savory layer underneath. Gummy bears and winegums. A subtle and great integrated layer of peat. I get a sensation of ship rope which, in my opinion, is responsible for that typical flavor of older peated whisky.
    • Taste
It’s very soft and gentle! Almost shy initially. After that a slowmotion explosion of dried herbs, cinnamon powder, paprika powder, cigarette tobacco and earthy, sweet peat. Finally it builds up to a thick, syrupy and mouth coating body. Truly lovely stuff!
    • Finish
The long and delicate finish is rather mineral like and gives again dried herbs, subtle peat and also a sensation of wet tobacco.

This is a whisky you need to dive into and concentrate. Definitely not a beginners dram but very rewarding when you sit down and take your time with it! Simply lovely how the peat developed after such a long time. Despite of the price I would give this a serious buy recommendation.

Not an easy malt. Quite interesting, you can tell the age, but overall lacks some complexity.
    • Nose
      88 88
Raspberries and some wine gums, herbs and grassy notes next to roasted arms and a peaty-fat base note; quite interesting and mature.
    • Taste
      87 87
At the beginning a creamy sweetness, then an intense tingling on the tongue and lots of spice.
    • Finish
      85 85
The finish is a little rough with lots of wood and bitter notes emerging.

Ripe, soft, tasty. But somehow the malt lacks expressiveness, a bit flat in aromas, almost boring.
For 26 years and 200 euros I would have expected a little more.

Much better on the palate than on the nose, quite drinkable
    • Nose

Quite some peat and smoke, vanilla, minerals, quince, iodine, cereals, hints of honey, dough
    • Taste

Oily, creamy, citric, fruity, subtle sweetness, hints of peat and smoke, vanilla, yellow fruits, tobacco, spices, custard cream - really not bad

Medium long, warm, more citric, spicy, little zesty, peaty, smoky

A 26 year old Ardmore from a refill bourbon barrel, what does one expect? A mellow earthy peater with good age and a good amount of but hopefully not too much oak. I am happy to say this is exactly what you get.

Both nose and palate are in perfect harmony with not an off note to be found. The peat is mellowed by age, the oak is kept in check by the malt. The complexity is average, but pleasure is very high. This profile is rare in the current whisky market, forget about getting aged peat like this from Islay, this is where it’s at now. Recommended.

Impression after three drams: A dram to take your time with: it develops very well and has a lot of depth to offer. It has a unique light 'floral' type of peat, and a full and rich taste beyond the more subtle nose.
