- N: smouldering embers, seaside kelp and brine, honeydew melon, sandalwood incense P: vanilla, mellow old oak spice F: peated toffee,1950s malt ice cream, damp charcoal.
Floral peat at first alongside ash. Pineapple and grapefruit come out to say hello, followed by honey and vanilla. The peat is a touch too dominant, but this is good.
Grapefruit, smoky peat, apple, melon, ash, honey, strawberry. Better balance than the nose.
Piercing ashy, maritime, vegetal peat. Oak, apple, honey, grapefruit, subtle strawberry. Honeydew melon. Good balance once again. Long.
- Very tasty, juicy, like a freshly cut pineapple.
Floral aromas rise through the smoke, linden, yellow apples and tropical fruits, pineapple, melon, then a few heavy notes, wood, shavings, hardened varnish.
Sweet, rich, bright, juicy, repeating in the taste the tones described above. Melon solo, some honey and, of course, smoke.
Smoky, sweet, tropical and long lasting.
- Was absolutely convincing in our tasting among 7 whiskys with 19 participants.
A round thing. Nice seasoning.
Smoke and aromas harmonize perfectly.
> highly recommended
The only drawback is the price-performance ratio
- So, this was a bit of a disappointment. I feel like the cask was very tired - the whisky is quite simple at all points and falls flat on the palate. Rumrunner's tasting notes are good, so I wont add to that. Despite the lack of cask, there is some old oak, and the peat is very tame, which may not be great given that there's not much going on. Still good, just not amazing.
I do have more of the sample, so I will have another taste in about a month, and hope I was wrong about this.
- Cadenhead tasting notes:
Nose: Bonfire embers, cloves, pipe tobacco
Palate: Candied ginger, butterscotch, slow cooked brisket
Finish: Strawberry cream, liquorice, Manhattan cocktail
