Bloody belting - the peat is gentle, the flavour is really well balanced, vanishingly good.

The peat I would normally expect is a mere hint in the background, the nose isn't overpowering at all, dried hay perhaps.

A very clean mouth feel with a lovely warmth building, the peat is hinted at, but it just makes you want more. Liquid honey.
    • Finish
      85 85
The finish is pleasantly long - it lingers for ages.

Nice mixture of gentle peat and fruitiness. Alcohol just punches a little more in the nose, in body and finish it's more sparkling.
Pleasant and steady dram for sure.

Peated, without being overwhelmed by peat. A lot of ashy fruitiness as well, some pineapple at first, later on much more on citrus/lime. That's when alcohol clearly pops up as well, getting pungent once and a while.

Quite smooth initially, some gentle peaty base, with some fruitiness as well, citrus and some tropical fruits. Things get more powerful as well after some time. Some caramel sweetness on the back later on.
    • Finish

More smooth now, gentle peat and ashy fruitiness, with some honey sweetness too, pretty long finish.

This bottle settles a bit after being open for a month or two. Light ash on the nose with vegetal notes. The palate continues with similar notes but better with some more ash at mid-palate, slight sweetness, and coastal notes of oysters. Medium finish of pure Caol Ila. I still prefer the 2008 Caol Ila bottled by Signatory for TasTToe, which is a personal favorite, but at less than 50 pounds, this Dornoch bottling provides significant value and quality for the money. Extra point for such a nice presentation!
