The Longrow lags behind a little in the mouth, but otherwise it overwhelms you with numerous, pointed aromas. For the full review, go here: https://keinehalbendrinks.de/2022/08/13/lost-rum/

Very nice whisky, with a kind peatiness resulting in a more earthy, tar and tobacco like experience. With some hints of kind of red fruits. Not quite a standard whisky, really some nice experience.
Nose, body and finish all have their own character. Good, definately.
    • Nose

Now this is something... tar, plums, rubber, gasoline, glue, all come together! Hardly any alcohol, kind of smooth. Like being in a bicycle store or stall.
    • Taste
      87 87
Still pretty smooth actually, with berries and plums, a smoky touch, earthy, some caramel, creamy. Tending towards some mustiness, ripe fruits, linoleum.
    • Finish
      88 88
Still smooth, only a little sparkle. A touch of ash and smoke over fruitiness. Some hints of cigar tobacco, pretty long. Warming in the belly.

here the overall picture fit perfectly for me
it's great and I like it
Spirit goes well with the barrel
    the smoke fits
    • Nose
Sweet, some smoke, ham, dirty, bright exotic fruit, liquorice, coconut
      with water: fruity, slightly sour

from 1920s: oak that tingles alcohol
      with water: slightly cheesy
    • Taste
      creamy, oily, full
      Ham, light fruit, some smoke

with water: very spicy, a lot of oak, no more smoke, slightly gummy
    • Finish
      long
Oak, spicy, sweetness is coming, smoke, roasted chicken (where does that come from?)

with water: cinnamon, cocoa, a note that I cannot name

Tasting notes based on a 2cl sample from the "Springbank New and Forthcoming Releases - Virtual Tasting 2021" tasting pack. This was my least favourite sample from the pack and although a high quality dram, I do not regret not buying a full bottle.
    • Nose
      85 85
Quite closed off. Hint of lemon zest, vanilla fudge. Later a slight vegetal note, like asparagus. 1/2 tsp water added brings out peat more, with a slight banana and pineapple note coming through.
    • Taste
      88 88
Lots of rum and sugar. Nice mouthfeel. Smokiness from the peat coming through, with a tasty maple syrup note contrasting nicely with this.
    • Finish
      87 87
Nice and long, and not as sweet as the nose. The peat actually takes more of a position up front on the finish, with the pineapple note still detectable in there somewhere.

The question that inevitably arises when you first smell it is: is it a rum from a longrow barrel or the other way around? Seldom had such full rum notes in a whisky. Smoke and savory biscuits are of course also included. Latu Video is a full maturation in a rum barrel. Fits to the enormous barrel influence. First-fill rum bomb longrow! And of course he can withstand it. Great!

scbp-4443, the saltiness is too high, if it can be controlled a little, the drinking comfort of this wine will be much better.
    • Nose
      92 92
Very heavy lard oil, dust, minerality, Northeast pickled cabbage soup, slightly organic oil, slightly peat, the main flavor is green apple mint, barley sugar, and a little passion fruit juice: the sourness of vitamin C . It is slightly green when it enters the cup, and then focuses on the flavor of yellow fruits. 92
    • Taste
      85 85
It is full of juice, green apple juice, sweet dried pineapple, passion fruit, and oily feeling are all abundant, with lighter peat as a foil. Afterwards, it is filled with a heavier sense of salt and peppermint flavor, and the irritation on the tongue coating is slightly heavier. The wine has medium strength, medium flavor concentration, outstanding saltiness and strong stimulation. 85, 86-84
    • Finish
      85 85
Come back with a slight smell of roasted bacon, leaving plant stems and leaves, mint, a little milky fragrance, no bitter bottom, extremely high salinity, and upset the balance. 85

    Opened the bottle yesterday.

    First impressions:
Where do you get the rum reference in this bottling? Probably just on the label.

The rum has revealed itself, for me, only during uncorking and that was where it left it's mark. Had a couple of drams and if given it without knowing it is "Fresh rum cask", I would, even without a bit of hesitation, say, that this is very nice bourbon re-fill cask!

Don't get me wrong, It is a well matured Longrow, nicely rounded with a very long and gentle finish, but I was expecting tropical fruits bombardment. Unfortunately, it is not the case here (except vanilla and pineapple so typical for bourbon casks). A bit disappointing for me, as I was looking forward to the more identifiable rum imprint.

    • Nose
Very rummy at first, and mixed with fresh citrus fruits. This is followed by honey. Subtle peat. Ripe bananas and pineapple. There’s a light farmyard smell as well. Vanilla. Later also minerals and chalk.
    • Taste
More peat than in the nose. Vanilla and bananas. Pineapple juice. It’s a little bit salty at some points. Which is quickly followed by minerals.
    • Finish
Mid-long to long. Peat and sweet fried bananas. A pinch of salt and kiwi.

    Not a typical Longrow.
Although not very complex, but very balanced dram.
Palate has slightly more peat than the nose.
I wouldn't go over 150€ for this one.

A full maturation in the rum barrel, that can sometimes catch the eye. Fortunately not here. The association Rum - Caribbean may be playing tricks on my senses, but I mean, with its fruity notes and coconut water, it actually provides the appropriate aromas.
    • Nose
      90 90
Smoked pineapple, lemon cake, vanilla, honey - the rum barrel comes through very clearly. It is fresh and light, the smoke accompanies it, not dominating, with a herbal note. Some fresh laundry in the wind, a flower meadow in summer.
    • Taste
      89 89
Very soft and creamy start, in which the smoked pineapple slices and the lemon cake from the nose can be found immediately. Here, too, with a lot of vanilla and honey, plus white chocolate flakes and coconut water. Gets spicier at the back with pepper and paprika powder.
    • Finish
      89 89
Medium to long, slightly dry. Hardly smoky, but the fruit sweetness stays on the tongue for a long time.

Not a typical longrow, but therefor nice. Yellow fruit in the nose. In the taste the rum comes up. Short, hard finish. A nice and rare Longrow, but definetly not worth the current market prices (asked).

Tropical, pineapple, coconut, a lot of sugar cane, but not so sweet, light peat, not too intrusive, very smooth, a bit of vanilla, sea saltiness, medium-long but very pleasant finish. It is not a super complex whisky, but so pleasantly drinkable.

Yes officially released for 100£, but when shipped to Germany and you include the outrageous shipping fee, mandatory import duty because of Brexit and German vat and 15€ mandatory DHL handling fee plus credit card fees etc you end around 140€ with some rounding... Just saying, but needs to be considered.
