It is impossible to say that it is very multi-layered, but the case when it is delicious and you give a good grade when you just like
    • Nose
      87 87
At first restrained and in the background it smells a bit of alcohol and brew, which is not surprising for 5 years and such strength, but somewhere in 5-10 quite decent - well-smoked meat and seaweed, menthol, sherry notes are quite noticeable but it's not the dominant sherry you expect from the first filling and there is a bit of character from the distillery
    • Taste
      88 88
meat, coals, plums, a few stones, alcohol is very well integrated and does not feel, quite round to taste
    • Finish
      88 88
long and rich and citrus tones are added

I wouldn't have guessed that it was only 5 years old in a blind tasting. a really excellent "heavily" peated sherry dram. well done Glengyle distillery! ???? Sláinte mhath ????
    • Nose
      87 87
      Peat, sherry, fruity, vanilla.
    • Taste
      88 88
Nose follow up in the palate.
Where I also find it smooth and a little dry from the sherry cask.
    • Finish
      87 87
Smooth n' dry sherry, fruity with soft peat.
      suitably medium length.

Dough, petrichor. Mineral, earthy. A fruity, oaky vanilla.
    • Taste
      88 88
Sweet dark fruit. Woody smoke. Meat with a tang and some spices. Herbs.
    • Finish
      88 88
Light. Sweet and fruity smoke. Coffee-ish bitterness. Roasted, glazed nuts. Medium-long.

  5. Calmar scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

A very solid mix of oak, sherry and mineral-industrial beginnings, rather harsh and sweet at the same time, a wide palette, rich, bright, relatively complex and deep, although obviously young, unfortunately in development it sags very much with the manifestation of dust and cardboard.
    • Nose
Open, dry, very active, bright woody notes, creamy sweetness - fudge, toffee, salted caramel; there are also mineral-industrial tones - welding aerosol, mineral fertilizers; rubber and plastic, smoky motifs, and it's all pretty well mixed and balanced.
    • Taste
Dense, rich, oak, sulfur-mineral tones, creamy sweetness - boiled condensed milk, salted caramel; smoky shades, plastic, rubber, in general, about the same as in the aroma and also perfectly balanced, leather goods, coffee, pipe tobacco, notes of imperial stout, fallen leaves, raisins, strongly degrades in development into sharpness and cardboard.
    • Finish
Soft, warming, continues the main theme of taste and aroma already at the end - everything is in a light, airy version, but the ingredients are the same - sulfur-mineral tones, oak, creamy notes, leather goods, raisins, coffee, smoky motifs, a little rubber and plastic, alas, it is also killed over time by harshness and dust.

    • Taste

Hot, sweet and dirty and a lot of funk,
    • Finish
      85 85
      Sulfure dirty and funky

"Heavily Peated"? I didn't find it that smoky at all, but most likely the taste was subtle, I diluted it with water because of the cask strength. I liked it a lot, even if I couldn't tease out all the flavors because of the 2cl!
    • Nose
A tart but powerful sweetness with ashy notes and something I find hard to grasp.... Petrichor, like after a summer thunderstorm, that's it! Fruitiness, without being able to describe it in more detail, with tobacco, wood/oak and quite mild.
    • Taste
Sweet and woody, burnt cake or the fruity caramelized crust of a cake and light smoke.
    • Finish
Warm, oak, banana, tobacco and re-burned (cherry) cake.

Salt, sulfur, wood, the strongest peat and smoke of the Killeran I've ever drunk, but still stab but tasty

  9. Beatroute Malt scored this whisky 87 points Expert Junior

Oh, impressive nose! Sherry and peat in harmony. Fresh ground pepper, sweet & sour, hint of nutmeg and mild spices. Complex palate, semi dry, with caramel, almost slightly burnt. Dry finish, long. Great stuff for a 5 year old, the cask and the intrinsic quality of the spirit really works well together.

The aroma is intense, bright. Minerality, malt notes, an extinct fire, some industrial motives, wet wool. Menthol theme, spicy spices, slightly burnt wood. There is something sherry, but this is clearly not "sherry shit" which is found all the time in the ageless releases of modern bottling.
The taste is powerful, explosive, knits. Smoky extravaganza, burnt caramel, vanilla, grassiness, milk chocolate, coffee with milk, some industrial shades.
Finish - closer to long-lasting, knits. Industrial theme, caramel, coffee with milk, spices.
Conclusion: In the first minutes of acquaintance, a complete feeling of primitiveness, but as soon as the fog dissipates, the whisky opens from the other side.
The aroma is quite rich in shades and half-tones, the taste is bright and explosive with a good aftertaste, not deprived of the corporate identity.
    Very, very, very good !!!

Dirty peat, mineral, chocolate, leather, reminiscent of ledaig, not bad

    he was OK
i didn't find him heavily peated
    he needs water
    • Nose
Spice mix with nutmeg, sandy, chocolate ~ 65%, nougat, sherry, light oak, pear comes, becomes nutty, spicy, smoke, later slightly cheesy
with water: cinnamon, gum, sweet, sherry, minimal smoke, ham, later a rice-bast mixture

from 1920s: leather, sharpness from alcohol, brown sugar, very spicy, slightly oak
with water: sherry, nutty, a chemical note like plastic
    • Taste
      creamy, full, strong
Oak, sherry, slightly raisins, dark caramel, plastic and artificial leather, the alcohol tingles a bit

with water: softer, gummy, a note I can't name, really dark caramel
    • Finish
      Sherry, spicy, oak, nougat, nutmeg

      with water: allspice

Rich chocolate, bacon, toffee, intense peat, raspberries, balsamic vinegar and cherry, all integrated in an oily and dense distillate, confidently oozing Kilkerran grease and funk. Very much like a peated Kilkerran 8 oloroso (2021 bottling), and reminiscent of richly sherried young Ledaig. Incredibly impressive for 5 years old.

Nose: sugar mice, orange sherbet, coconut cream, sugarloaf pineapple
Palate: papaya juice on the turn, kombucha and roasted cloudberries
Finish: singed hair, bonfire smoke and greengages. pineapple chunks

I would not have blindly guessed only 5 years ... a really great young malt!
    • Nose
      86 86
Immediately smoked bacon, maple syrup and citrus fruit, malt beer, slightly musty, after a bit of twitter you can clearly see muesli and dried herbs
    • Taste
      88 88
powerful start, salivation sets in immediately, very creamy, still greasy smoke, maple syrup, yellow fruits, great oak flavor and lots of milk chocolate!
    • Finish
      90 90
Medium length, smoky, sweet and salty at the same time, light spice and chocolate remain

  19. Whiskylifestyle scored this whisky 87 points Expert Senior

    • Nose
Red fruits combined with a milk chocolate note at first. Then the peat is coming through, which is quickly followed by smoked bacon. Minerals and chalk. Lemons too. Later also a farmyard note. Soy sauce too.
    • Taste
Kiwi, chalk and peat. A hint of red fruits again, which is followed by milk chocolate. A touch of grapefruit. Honey, but also soy sauce. A touch of oak and pepper.
    • Finish
Mid-long with soy sauce. Kiwi and lemons. Milk chocolate and a little bit peat. Pepper and it’s slightly oaky.

Do you like Kilkerran Heavily Peated batch 3?
Well basically this is it with some little extra time spend in sherry casks. It's a little bit more subtle than batch 3, and sherry plays good role on the finish.

  21. Archer scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

5 years. In words: five years. I can't believe what it can do. In the finish it bends (of course) a bit, but otherwise ... This nose is awesome, you think you can bite into the Marshmellows. And then all that chocolate and caramel notes - just great.
    • Nose
      90 90
Warm smoke, grilled marshmallows, lukewarm caramel candy, toffee, fudge, milk chocolate, milk coffee - what a nose!
Reminds me a lot of batch 3 of the Kilkerran HP, just matured a bit longer. Great, I could smell it forever.
    • Taste
      89 89
Powerful start. Creamy, warm smoke with a note of bacon in a herbal coating. Warm caramel, milk chocolate, white coffee, nutmeg, pepper, a pinch of allspice. Already looks very ripe, basically has no green aromas. The smoky note is intense, but feels absolutely right the way it is.
    • Finish
      87 87
Almost medium length, now clearly dry. Greasy smoke, nougat, caramel, coffee with milk, slightly spicy.

  22. Vmarcinv scored this whisky 88 points Expert Senior

Seaweed fire, a bit dirty riverside, smoked bacon, dried fruit in chocolate, some light minerality. Lots of smoke, roasted nuts. Alcohol perceptible but it does not bother me, it just has its own character and at such a young age it exceeds expectations anyway.

Yes officially released for 50£, but when shipped to Germany and you include the outrageous shipping fee, mandatory import duty because of Brexit and German vat and 15€ mandatory DHL handling fee plus credit card fees etc you end around 72€ with some rounding... Just saying, but needs to be considered.

    A Kilkerran for Ledaig fans!
    • Nose
      86 86
Young and grainy smoke, lots of bacon and roasted aromas, cowshed a la Ledaig, including a citrus-heavy minerality, strong men's chocolate
    • Taste
      88 88
Strong and immediately creamy, greasy and smoky, much darker chocolate, becoming drier, definitely spicy despite its youth
    • Finish
      86 86
Smoky bacon, again a lot of cowshed, pleasant oak bitterness, creamy and medium-long on the palate
