    • Nose
N: alcol molto pungente, a tratti fastidioso.

Too much sweetness for my taste

  4. lachaineduwhisky did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

Very soft ! Caramel, milk chocolate. Winey, more and more same. Red berries. Very accessible. More rough on the malted notes then, too bad. Fluffy on the palate, very well integrated alcohol. Sweet spices. Final easy and short, with a small lack of thickness.

    Enthusiasm: 3/5

The nose is very vinous and well marked by milk chocolate. Praline chocolate and red fruits mouth, very greedy. Among its qualities the texture is a bit raspy. On the other hand, the finish is too short, on the aromas of the mouth. Arran's profile and his traditional "green" markers are being squeezed out by the finish and that's good for me as well; towards more greed. The lack of final and complexity pose flats all the same. We can also blame him for a lack of finesse.

Nice to had an Amarone Cask finish in the glass but nothing which I would like to have again.
    • Nose
Bunch of grapes, cherries & plums
    • Taste
sweet start: cherries, strawberries not much complexity
    • Finish
      medium long nothing special

  9. Magnus Hillman scored this whisky 84 points Expert Senior

The nose and palate is not bad at all but it feels a bit under matured on the finish.

     (Rating interval 82-86)
    • Nose
Tartaric acid, bitter grape kernel, almond, vanilla and dark syrup. It is somewhat closed and after water some cocoa appears.
    • Taste
The arrival is dry, sour and bitter. It develops towards bitter marmalade and aromatic blackberries, red apples and black currant.
    • Finish
The bitter marmalade retains in the finish but also cranberry and tiny hints of absinth. The finish is medium to long and peppery but unfortunately rather bright.

Nose: Not so sweet as i was expecting, some turnips, cocoa powder and cranberries.

Palate: Full of tannins, this one, raging tannins. a bit on the bitter side, and ending on bitter chocolate.

Finish: Chocolaty (bitter) and bitter almonds.

This one is quite similar to the Arran sauternes finish (view my notes) but even more odd and more bitter notes in the end. In some moments, I liked it a lot, in other moments I hardly did. It takes a lot of courage to produce such a kind of whisky, because a lot of malt heads will deny the fact that this one is a whisky. Feels and tasts like a weird kind of grappa made from red grapes, matured in very active, perhaps small european oak casks.  But you won't find too many similar malts, so this expression is very interesting.
    • Nose
Color is not burnished, but like a rosé wine.
The nose starts with lotsa wineyard peaches, apricots and Chivers ginger jam, followed by somethin weird like dextro energy glucose tabs, a very nice touch of sweet rosé wine and a little bit of white pepper.
    • Taste
This one is medium-bodied, despite of the powerful attack from the high ABV (50%) it is surprisingly smooth, Blackcurrants, gooseberries, freshly rubbed cinnamon and van Houten milk chocolate in the beginning, replaced by a growing bittersweet taste from red grapes and oak, we're talking of a big wall unit combined with a slight yeastiness, that shows a kind of undermaturation. First thought was that this one could take some more years of maturation to produce a true masterpiece but how fat will all this bitterness grow in such an extended maturation time ? Same as with the Arran sauternes finish: This is a dilemma.
    • Finish
      Short to medium
long. Lemon zest, a little pepper, less ginger,  lots of red wine influence fading out with even more bitter wood tannins.

Arran 'Amarone finish' NAS, 50%, OB 2011
Amarone is an Italian red wine from Veneto, the region around Venice. This was a whisky that left most people rather cold. Not special, but not bad either. Light, sweet nose with notes of vanilla, cereals, rhubarb and hay. More fruit with water (pear too). The taste is also light and sweet with honey and fruit and some pepper to the end. 77/100 http://onversneden.com/2011/10/20/fulldram-halloween-tasting/

A very pleasant dessert whisky, because you like to leave the compote!
    • Nose
Immediately you have ripe red cherries in the nose, behind hiding bright fruits (apple, pear and apricot). It confuses me a bit because I did not expect that after the ripe cherries!
    • Taste
Short but strong spicy on the tongue (I had not expected). It immediately follows a creamy sweetness that fills the whole mouth!
    • Finish
The whole ends with a strong but short finish. The taste of spicy oak remains in the mouth.

    A successful dram.
    • Nose
Sweet and fruity. Grapes, apricot, marzipan, dextrose, syrup, some caramel and oak.
    • Taste
Despite the 50% not too spicy. Again sweet and grape fruit. Red berries, caramel, vanilla, some dark chocolate.
    • Finish
Long and fruity with chocolate and some malt.

    • Taste
With water added: Sweet, oaky, winey

Purchased by reading the tempting comments of the LMDW. Huge disappointment.
    • Nose
A whisky close to the nose as in the mouth: not sexy at all, even a little off. The first drams are very strange with metallic and vinegary notes. It improves a little after a few weeks of aeration in the bottle and with the addition of water. The stale wine smell persists until the end of the bottle.
    • Taste
Vaguely chocolatey and malty. Spicy alcohol. Dry, firm and lean texture.
    • Finish
      Phew!

Finish: dry and spicy with some chocolate too.

    Very attractive dark-pink/red gold colour.

Nose: Fruit tea, rose hip tea, slight sour, a tad oakMouth: fruit tea, tiny bit oak, rubharb juiceFinish: tad oak, drying, fruit teaComments: very peculiar, the amarone finish is a bit overpowering letting you only notice hints of the underlying whisky. Also very fruit tea`ish. There isn`t a lot of depth to it either, but it isn`t bad. I wouldn`t buy a whole bottle but I enjoyed my glass. Noteworthy is also the color, which is pink`ish :D

Seductive aromas of pear, honey with subtle notes of toasted almonds and cranberries. With the addition of water, there are notes of coffee to recognize combined with chocolate and oranges
    • Taste
Dark chocolate, cherries and hints of plum, bitter sweet apricots and a hint of cinnamon
    • Finish

  29. Igor scored this whisky 88 points Expert Senior

All in all I liked it enormously. This is undoubtedly an outstanding example of well crafted single malt. Which I consider as yet another successful experiment of the distillery squad, and recommend it strongly from now on to all who dare experimenting.
    • Nose
Peach pulp, dried apricots, soft fruit, handful of raspberries, strawberries, chocolates with jam filling, gingery, sweet tangerine, a little nipping (in a nice way), ginger ale/root beer, a touch of rustiness.
    • Taste
Jammy-sweet, medium-bodied, surprisingly smooth, taking into consideration the alcoholic strength of it. Strawberry, blackcurrant, sour-sweet kiwi note, cocoa, cinnamon sticks?, milk chocolate.
    • Finish
Medium long. Enters with vigour, spice, paprika?, explosive citrus/zest, then pepper, ginger, mustard, winy for certain, slightly tart, cranberries, blueberry?, wood tannins of an oak, fruit-flavoured iced tea.

  30. d1scostu scored this whisky 78 points Connoisseur

nose: very light, many fruits like strawberry and peach, the 50% cover a lot, water does not help much; fruit punch

taste: many light fruit notes, corpse schaerfe, very very sweet, like rosé wine

finish: Fruit stays in the mouth for a long time, strawberry chewing gum

interesting and different summer whisky, me personally too lovely, maybe in front of desert, women's whisky? Which is why the 50% comes to me is rather foggy

    Ok, but hardly exciting.
    • Nose
Tinned peaches and cranberry and peach tins and honey. Water releases honey and cereals
    • Taste
Jelly babies and wine gums. Rhubarb and sugar. Water crushes it.
    • Finish
Vague sugary spikes but not much else. Nothing with water either.
