    Blind tasted. August 2016.
Very fond of the nose but it needs water to tame this overriding bitterness on mouth and finish.
    • Nose
First sniff is strong, alcoholic and kind of peaty. Afterwards dried apricot, liquorice, pine resine, varnish, smoked ham.
    • Taste
Heavy. On dried fruits, citrus and salt. Spicy too. And a frank bitterness from the wood probably.
Let's try with water. Seabreeze on the nose, more smoked meat mixed with the dried fruits. The mouth is more citrusy, bitterness is tamed and overall it's better.
    • Finish
      Similar. Still this bitterness.

The nose was very engaging but the result is noticeably disappointing. It's hard to guess what that might be. The meat is reminiscent of Mortlach, the rest perhaps a Campbeltown
    • Nose
Old school and melted. Can be coffee with milk, can be softwood. Old leather, toffee and some smoked meat (dry ham). It's very nice.
    • Taste
Rich and creamy. Many dried fruits, brown sugar and caramel. Always a little smoked meat. Becomes pretty quickly sickening.
    • Finish
Moderately long. Saline, hot and spicy.

Tasted in blind. The nose pulls this dram down in my opinion. Then I have trouble as soon as I feel sulfur. 84/100
    • Nose
A slightly sulfur nose. With that wood and liquorice. I can not get much out of my nose. I wonder if I do not feel a little side peat / closed, but without much conviction. With water, a little lemon spring.
    • Taste
In the mouth, it is very hard and caramelized. Very woody. And very strong. With water, the woody disappears a little, but against a puff of salt appears. Unless I missed it before. A little flower (violet?).
    • Finish
The finish is softer and is on blackberry and caramel.

    Tasting Notes by WhiskyFun.com (August 20, 2014):

    Colour: deep gold.

Nose: great, that’s all I can say. Ultra-classic and mega-classy HP goodness, with extra-layers of meaty things and camphory stuff. This time we have a huge smoky Christmas cake, as well as many tiny herbal notes, parsley, chives, fennel, lovage and all that. Unbeatable style as far as rather heavy sherry’s concerned. With water: many mineral notes, new tyres, clay, ‘good’ sulphur…

Mouth (neat): did I mention a Christmas cake? With water: big sherried HP, slightly rough and gritty, but that goes well with the distillate. Crystallised oranges, dried bananas, fruitcake, honey cake… and all that.

Finish: long, with more spices. Cloves, as often in heavily sherried whiskies. And tobacco, and a little leather.

Comments: little-known bottlers can have great whiskies, even when they use the names of long-gone distilleries. Ah well…

    • Nose
A lot of charred oak, prunes, dried mushrooms, tobacco, dried fruit compote, a little bit of dryness, a lot of smoke, also it seems slightly peated, smoked bacon, hints of spiciness and pepper, heavy leather and grilled meat.
    • Taste
It starts with sweetness, then it gives that burning sensation on the palate with light sourness, dryness, spiciness, smoke, peat, roots, pepper, a lot of tobacco, cigarette smoke, with honey sweetness to it.
    • Finish
Long, sweet on one hand, semidry, smoky, tobacco and peppery on the other hand. It is very warming.
