    Intense

    After my very succesful encounter with the 17 years old Distillery Exclusive that was finished on a Madeira cask, I felt it was only right to hunt for this 13 years old on port casks as well. I found a sample in Holland and am totally ready to give it a go.

    The schizophrenic character of the distillery is immediately evident on the nose: smoked meat, camphor, wet earth, putty… and is joined by some rose water, red fruit, chewing tobacco and something candy-like. Good!

    Delicious on the palate! A basket of red and blue berries next to a smoky bonfire, salty salmiak, soft butter and lots of smoke. Caramel and honey soften things up. Liquorice and back pepper make it quite spicy. All flavors are pretty intense.

    The finish is very long, spicy, smoky, warm and ends in a combination of dried meat (beef jerky) and red wine.

    Impressive, young, powerful, warm Ledaig that blew my socks off.

    He is on the "Dirt scale" quite high up. Young, dirty savage. Do you like to stop, although artisanal there is no Bückware. Very leathery typical. The port barrel brings me Jamaikarum notes almost squaring the filthy thing.

    Ledaig friends should add 1-2 points to my rating. I am not the friend of this dirty characteristic.

      Same as the sherry (https://www.whiskybase.com/whiskies/whisky/132096/ledaig-2005-eld) but much denser and more concentrated. Fruit note is even more intense, prunes. Very cute. Bacon is even more present. Alcohol notes flashes every now and then.

      Very oily, strong ester note. Reminiscent of rum from Jamaica. Once rinsed in the mouth, the alcohol squeezes well. But then it looks very creamy and sweeter. Reminiscent of dark Kamdiszucker that has sucked as a child. Dark fruits from the port come along again and again. Water makes it a little Smoother, but you do not really need it if you have some staying power.

    Quite an atypical Ledaig, as if all the traditional elements are available, but not in the usual loud, powerful, concentrated performance. The aroma is delicate, the taste is louder, and the aftertaste is simply overflowing with receptors. Degree is not felt, very drinkable. Super!

    An interesting Ledaig with a clean and balanced flavor profile that stretched more in the direction of fruit and sweet than it did to funky and salty. The port pipe played a starring role as it drove the flavor profile with its concentrated fruits and grapes while the Ledaig spirit hung in the background with occasional gusts of smoke from a seafood bbq. Overall, while there are some really nice elements, it felt a bit too balanced, and too clean— too much in the direction of fruity and sweet. Based on prior reviews, it is pretty clear my preference is for refill or ex-bourbon cask Ledaig and that wine casks just have not tickled my fancy. I think that if you love a fruity wine cask influence on your malt, especially if you love sherry matured Ledaig, then this will have some good appeal.

      Smoked salmon spread on rye at Sea World— salty, meaty, and slightly fishy. Faint chalk, smoked gouda, and mild antiseptic notes gave this a nice sharp complexity. Fruity notes came through with fried plantains, roasted bananas, and smokey fruit punch.
    • Taste
      Medium body with a bright and clean flavor profile. Smoked grapes, a wine shop in Pompeii during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, bbq’ed figs, and purple drink at a family backyard bbq. Beyond the smokey fruity profile sat notes of grilled shellfish, candied seaweed, and antiseptic wipes.

    Lovely whisky for it's 13 years. I bought 2 bottles when available, one is almost finished now and I regret not to have bought more. What a red fruits basked with spices, peat, intense warm experiance. An easy 89 points from me.

    Peat + port is a tricky affair. I'm afraid I'd rather have a glass of Talisker Port Ruighe than this.

    As far as Ledaig goes, I prefer the 13 y.o. Amontillado Finish by a large margin.

      In my opinion, the farmy / maritime Ledaig character clashes with the Port maturation.

      Man, that's a distillate that can hold its own. While the nose is dominated by Port, the palate is pretty much all Ledaig: graphite dust, exhaust fumes, earthy, herbal, deep smoke.

      Big fun in sample size, but a whole bottle would be too much for me.

      The smoke in my mouth is warmer, there is a campfire here and the smoked bacon that I always have with Ledaig.

    The aroma is intense, sweet. Smoke, vanilla, spices, herbs, earth, ammonia, a little mint freshness.
    We stood there, breathed ..... Berry mix, raspberries, creamy notes, leather goods, oiled rags (stale), humus.
    The taste is bright, sweet, knits. Peat, lots of spices, berries in smoke, vanilla, dried fruits, sweet grapefruit, custard, tobacco.
    The finish is long and knits. Burn, apricot pits, persimmon, wet wood, a hint of a barnyard. In the background there is a chokeberry.

    Output. Mull made me happy again. Interesting, scotch-free for derivatives, scotch tape not without roughness.
    Slightly biting in taste, the degree feels good and it constantly keeps the receptors in tension. It does not cause much discomfort, but it keeps you in good shape, this is a fact. I will repeat exactly the degree, not alcoholism. In general, it turned out to be exciting and informative.

    As a fan of Port Finishes and Rauch, I'm into these
    When I saw that it was fully ripened, my eyes shone. From Tobermory I only knew the 10, 12 and 12 Manzanilla so far. But all found them great. So I ordered it. At first, however, I was disappointed. 130 € and then such a restrained nose. But I have to say it is developing. It takes a lot of time and then becomes more intense!

      At first it was really smoky, yes, almost dirty, snotty.
      In the background hints of fully ripe pear, almost no trace of the port. The 58% are not unpleasant, but hold back the aromas. That's why I dilute it down to about 50%. The smoke becomes more pleasant, some herbs come out and a light menthol freshness. Slightly maritime in the background.

      Diluted, wonderfully creamy, oily. Like a piece of dark
      Chocolate (but without bitterness) which on the
      Tongue melts. Wonderful. I couldn't really spot fruit notes. It's more chocolatey. A bit of salty liquorice still appears. Wonderful!

      Long to feel some oak. Subtle bitterness.
      More like a slightly bitter, smoky and somewhat sooty one
      Note lingers on the tongue.
      130 € is a lot of money for a drink, but with a little water you get a great single malt
      from Tobermory.

      At the beginning you immediately notice why Richly Peated is next to it, everything is pervaded with the typical Ledaig Schmodder, soagr a bit medicinal and mineral it gets now and then, then dark chocolate, citrus notes and grilled meat come out of the glass. I'm still not sure whether the citrus notes are not also in the direction of citrus cleaner

    First nose reminds me of the laundry that i had put aside for few days.. a 13 years old that taste like 18 years old but with fresh finishing. Good complexity in both nose and palate, with pleasant berries finishing.
