Peat's Beast Batch Strength PX Finish 54.1%.
Sample thanks to Paul.
Aroma is plain chocolate raisins, some charcoal briquette, faint apple peel, maybe a bit eggy or lactic. Actually I'm going to say the vibe is like the skin from a home-made rice pudding, if that's not too esoteric. Pretty muted. Not very expressive on the nose, and no smoke.
Taste is fairly flat on delivery. Carries the abv effortlessly but the flavour is muddled and muted. Salt and figgy fruit. Slowly, slowly, slowly builds a smokiness after the swallow.
The sherry has certainly taken all the sting out of this peaty whisky, but without adding loads either. Everything cancels each other out and I’m left with something fairly flat and unexpressive in the glass.
I stuck with it regardless and if you give it lots of time the flavour becomes more smoked gammon. Increasingly Ledaig-like. Hammy with some dark fruits. It just needed lots of time in the glass to come out of itself. But never quite my bag. 3.1/74
