[October, 2021] A quick review of a sample...

...which is an easy-to-sip peaty dram without both flaws and highlights. Forget about the sherry cask, the sherry is hardly detectable.
    • Nose
      86 86
The colour is deep gold and the nose offers a powerful peaty profile with barley sugars and wooden notes, but almost no sherry aromas even after a longer period of oxidation. This is a simple nose but it is good and works in combination with the taste.
    • Taste
      88 88
The taste is powerful too with the peat flavours in the driver's seat again. The barley sugars sooth these bitter notes perfectly and the wood provides an appropriate backbone. This is a plain formula but it works perfectly. The sherry flavours take their time to show up but when they do the profile turns more interesting and quaffable.
    • Finish
      87 87
The dram arrives warming and coating on the palate without distracting moments. the finish is long and adds more bitter tea-ish and ashy impressions besides the ever present sugars. No distracting moments here either. Some water does not change a lot while a bigger splash releases the sherry in the nose (still not powerful, but recognizable now) and the taste turns smooth and even more quaffable. I prefer this dram reduced to about 43% abv.

A balance of smoke, sweetness, meatiness and salt coming together to create a great dram. Quintessential Ledaig with a dirty sherry influence. I’d take another bottle.

Very powerful dram with Ledaig signature. On the nose there is a lot of hey (barley) and sweetness. On the palate is very sweet and peaty. Nothing to complex but yet full body, no off note.

Nose: Godzilla-like destructive power, nuts, grease, ah! ! ! , Very dirty, farm, manger, herbs, citrus, minerals. Very expressive, complex and balanced, charcoal smoke, crushed black pepper, stinky sweat, old boots.

Drink: wow, greasy, heavy, ah! ! ! Too dirty, fish oil, stables, how could I know so much about the smell of dirty, just think he is really dirty. Rich in oils, citrus, and very expressive. The ending rhyme is also very lasting. Superb.

Overall: If you ask me what Ledaig is like, drink this bottle of Whisky Sponge bottling!

A well-balanced, drinkable, even slightly smoothed ledaig. Sweet smoke on baked fokts, citrus and herbal notes. A little lacks branded "dirt" and power. The finish is longer than average. 22-22-22-22

Very peaty and smoky, interesting herbal touch, well balanced and drinkable
    • Nose
      89 89
Very citric kind of peatiness, also smoky, bacon, black tea, little herbal, cocoa powder, apple juice, cigar ashes, little soot, nutty, almonds - really not bad
    • Taste
      90 90
Little punchy, oily, creamy, little sweetness, more nutty, dark chocolate, herbal peatiness, dry cigar smoke, more bacon - very good
    • Finish
      89 89
Medium long, warm, more peaty and herbal

  9. Baanaanaabob scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

Dirty peat, chocolate, straightforward and balanced very enjoyable.
