  1. Highlander65 scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

Very good, perhaps I expected it to be more varied and complex. Elegant, balanced, graceful, it does not try to overdo it but still rich and full. Outstanding handling of alcohol, it feels like 40 ABV!
    • Nose
wax, yellow fruit, butter, after a few minutes you feel icing sugar and vanilla
    • Taste
slightly tannic, consistent with the nose, sweet, waxy and fruit (yellow peach), honey, light spiciness and a hint of aromatic herbs
    • Finish
Long, moderately sweet, buttery, fruity, consistent with the nose and palate

The oak did a really good job here! Also complemented in many places with the nutty Oloroso. I'm glad it was bottled at cask strength. For the full review, go here: https://keinehalbendrinks.de/2022/09/12/90er-speyside/

Dailuaine 1997 - 2020, 23 years, 55.4% alc. Bottler: Wilson & Morgan. Expansion: 6 years post-maturation in Oloroso sherry casks (barrel numbers 15584 and 85)

Nose: Balanced between sweetness and sharper spices in the first impression. Apricot jelly, orange marmalade with cinnamon, pear compote. Over time, the whisky becomes calmer and almost gentle. Some Danish pastries with powdered sugar and a very delicate note of vanilla, as well as diluted peach ice cream tea. In the background something is reminiscent of slightly burnt kitchen herbs and ginger.

Palate: Fruity sweet, intense, oak and spices. It starts with ripe peaches and dried apricots, followed by pastries with red currants. I also find sugar beets and ripe plums, some roasted almonds and some burnt pizza dough, again with a slight herbal note. A pleasant bitterness fills the mouth, along with dry oak and mild pepper.

Finish: Long and dry, less sweet and more oak. Dried fruits, Cuban tobacco and liquorice.

Conclusion: Surprising for many a newcomer to the world of whisky due to its oak wood impact and the bitter component. Rest assured, this is how longer-aged single malts should be! A successful Dailuaine with a nice depth and a lot of barrel. 88/100 points (2022)

Excellent, full-bodied, versatile drink. You want to drink this all year round, and not at certain times of the year.
    • Nose
      90 90
Excellent rich profile. Peach jam, apricots, ripe apples and pears, jam.
    • Taste
      91 91
The taste is sweet, burning with burnt sugar, burnt plum jam. A cake with candied fruits and dried fruits, burnt at the edges.
    • Finish
      91 91
Bright, warm, melted sugar fills the mouth and binds the tongue. Continuous.
