Wow - what a wonderfully composed Blended Scotch whisky. Soft, round, very creamy with lots of honey sweetness and yellow fruit notes, perfectly balanced with the oak tannins and bitter orange zests. Nothing pushes itself to the fore, the purest harmony in the glass. Put together with a lot of experience by Billy Walker from a wide variety of casks. Very well done!

I thank The GlenAllachie Distillery for the complimentary sample!

    • Nose
Soft, even gentle on the nose with butterscotch, honeycomb and apricot fruit. Spicy oak, tannins and a hint of mint. In the background light floral notes with a whiff of smoke.
    • Taste
Sweet and surprisingly powerful at the beginning on the palate. Lots of honey, plus butterscotch, juicy oranges and vanilla sweetness. With time, slightly bitter tannins and orange zest become noticeable. Towards the finish, some dark chocolate and a hint of tobacco leaves.
    • Finish
The finish is medium to long with creamy heather honey, plus some spicy oak, fine tannins and a touch of bitter orange zest.

With water: After the addition of a few drops of water a little more smoke on the nose, spicy honey, accompanied by sweet apricot, orange peel and discreet mint. Sweet and creamy on the palate, only slightly warming. Spicy honey with sweet vanilla, butterscotch, mint, as well as slightly floral notes, herbs and bitter orange zest towards the finish. The finish is medium long, sticky sweet with honey, plus bitter tannins and orange zest and a touch of dry oak.

Even though this blend has a high malt content, it reminds me more of a well-aged grain whisky.
    • Nose
A gentle, soft first impression with notes of orange liqueur, subtle oak shavings and a whisper of crisp green apple. There's a touch of honeycomb and licorice, as well as some mint and dark caramel.
    • Taste
Sweet yet rather an intense arrival. Some tannins as well as white pepper, followed by bitter oranges, Werther's Original and molasses. Some earthy touches and a whisper of mint as well.
    • Finish
Soft oak, lingering spices and a touch of honey.

A 21yo blend where the Glenallachie distillate has a large say. Should be good no? I was excited to try this but left quite underwhelmed. The nose is flat and far from what you would expect. Some orange fruits, some honey sweets. Taste and finish wise it’s not that exciting either. Some peat and some smoke, indeed some Werthers Original (thnx Thijs), some orange fruits again. But overall its just not that complex or exciting. Way overpriced and I’m taking this of the wishlist. Permanently.

Yeah well uh... what can I say? Rarely, never have I been so disappointed by a Whisk(e)y - Blending is something for real experts. But Billy Walker can't do it here!
A Glenlivet Illicit or an Inchmoan 12 are more exciting and better for me

Flat, dead, boring. A Jack Daniel's nose is more exciting...
    • Taste

Despite the 48%, an intangible, characterless start. Kaisermania is more exciting.

Best of all: it's gone quickly and you can focus on better things.

You can only try to understand the hype about BW if you own the good old BenRiachs and GlenDronachs or have been allowed to enjoy them. The times are over once and for all, pity for the coming generation and my thanks for the grace of the early birth.

21y old blended scotch! Great taste, great aroma. But I expected more... There is something watery in everything. In the beginning it's hidden amongst the sweetness and the darkness of the wax. But the more you sip, the more water comes true. This is a bit a turn-off. Good whisky, but not exquisite.

Heavy on the nose, strong alcohol prickle. Sweet! Lactic. Slightly sour. Quince, sour cherries, polishing wax... Tannins, honeycomb. Hidden hint of mandarin.
    • Taste
      83 83
Punchy!! Really punchy. With mandarins and sweets! And again the strong alcohol kicks in (although it's only 48%). Honey, varnish, raisins, dry plums, vanilla. Amongst the sweetness there is also something fleshy, like raw cowmeat. Tannins are noticeable again, with spices and tobacco leaves. Don't know why but the dram seems to loose power and becomes watery at the end...
    • Finish
      81 81
Watery in the finish. Medium long finish with honeysuckle, white sherry, ashes and cigars. Honey fades out. Hint of oak and orange bitters. Dry. Very dry.
