great dark fruity sherry profile, lots of dried fruit, chocolate. Wonderful and delicious. Doesn't seem charged. I like.

A fruit compote led by strawberries and cherries pickled in rum. So to speak, rum pot in summer, before dark fruits are added

Spicy but quickly becoming fruity start. The fruits are a bit sour, which unfortunately bothers me a bit.

      Medium long, slightly sour. grain

Signatory Vintage is an independent bottler who buys New Make from other distilleries and stores in their own casks in the warehouses at Edradour Distillery. As a result, you often see bottlings distilled on the same day but bottled on different dates. This is a Blair Athol distilled on April 24, 2008, which was transferred to a Sherry Butt after initial refill hogshead maturation. There are several same day distilled Blair Athols in the Signatory repertoire with similar maturation. They cost upwards of €115 in the 'flower vase' and around €90 in the standard bottle. And all are dark 'sherry soups'. This is a rich, copper-colored sherry whisky, priced at around €115, which is very ambitious for a Blair Athol who is just under 13 years old. At Signatory, fresh sherry butt finish for 26 months is now almost a threat to proper sherry syrup in the cask.

These notes also apply to the Blair Athol, which was also bottled in the Cask Strength Collection in February 2021 and distilled on the same day (WB195141).

    • Nose
Sherry on the nose with strong berry jam with strawberries and dark, sweet cherries. The dreaded syrup is present, but there are also wood tones that provide tart notes. Light tobacco and spice notes, some cinnamon.

Overall, the aroma in the nosing is not differentiated. There is fruitiness, there are also orange notes - but all this is a bit over the top, it lacks the elegance that a well-matured Blair Athol can develop.

    • Finish
The woody notes fade away quickly and little sticks after the nougat cream. The wood didn't make a lasting impression either, and the sherry flavors are too superficial to linger on the palate.

This is a tasty drinking whisky that would be acceptable filled in a regular bottle and priced at €70-80. But he doesn't offer more. This review is for two Decanter bottlings, from 2021, one bottled on February 15th and the other on April 24th. Both are swehjr similar in their basic character.

Both are tasty whiskys that are easy to drink - but neither are special whiskys. In addition, the final sherry finish gives too little elegance and complexity. It's not as brutal as other Signatory bottlings - but it's also not so delicate and balanced that the price would justify it. The decanter is overdone in both bottlings and does not meet expectations. Pity …
