Whisky Reviews for Fleeting 2010 MCo

  1. Lorion scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

The whisky is undoubtedly very good. I am pleased that it can definitely set itself apart from the other Fleeting bottlings. However, it doesn't offer quite as much as I'm used to from many other Couvreur bottlings. An excellent whisky to be enjoyed alongside another activity. As the main actor one evening, he would lose out to some of his siblings with me. Anyway - it's a solid 85 points.
    • Nose
"Winey, sweet, nutty. Just like I know it from Couvreur. But there is more behind it, because immediately there is an intense spice in the nose. A touch of lovage, a little more nutmeg. Cherries, wood sounds. And the alcohol content - atypically high for the Fleeting series - provides cooling intensity. Refreshingly different. I can perceive strawberries.

Water: I now have hazelnuts very intensely. It's getting drier. The fruit acid is a bit more penetrative. The whisky loses a bit of variety. "
    • Taste
"Very fruity and spicy at the same time. The alcohol content is a point landing. Still a little unripe strawberries that still lack a bit of sweetness. Some fruit acid. A subtle bitterness is indicated, which dominates the aftertaste when swallowed. The whisky becomes quite dry." Dark chocolate stays.

Water: Softer, more flattering. The unripe thing has disappeared, chilli chocolate appears instead. Water is good for the palate. The whisky is different. Now it's getting a little sweeter too, if I'm not mistaken. It is reminiscent of a sweet and spicy chili dip. "
    • Finish
Long, dry and fruity. An idea of bitterness remains.

    nose:
sticks, cooked, spices, creamy sensation, crushed nuts, caramel, a little buttered fudge on the vanilla cream, chocolate shavings are coming!
malt galore, sprouted seeds crushed and rolled in the hand, a little on cardamom; at the fruit level, it's cooked and confit all the nostrils, on tangerine and redcurrant
    mouth:
spicy, velvety, the alcohol that grips, too used to reduced Roofers? in short it requires acclimatization.
The toasted malt, spicy, somewhat rough wood, you have to chew, the cocoa more than the chocolate, coffee all at once on the bottom of the cup, the pepper combines with the cooked vanilla; bitterness coming out of almond stones, a return of wood, candied oranges, cooked and macerated sweet mandarin, cooked vanilla; peppery and chilli spices; return to the salivated nut.
    final:
the soft cooked wine and strong spices, the velvety barley, the bitterness of the shell, the vanilla caramel, rather long finish and navigating between wood and macerated fruits.

A successful whisky, even if it falls a little below my high expectations (also considering the price). Definitely tasty, but other Couvreur whiskys in this or slightly lower price range offer more to me.
    • Nose
      86 86
I first need a lot of air, as is often the case with Couvreur; spicy-sweet; delicious berry fruits (strawberries, blackberries); vinous notes; nutty; Caramel; delicate wood notes
    • Taste
      86 86
oily; sweet and tart and spicy; nice fruit notes (including strawberries again); there is also some sour fruit; Pepper; nutty; darker chocolate; getting more and more dry in the mouth over time
    • Finish
      87 87
long; slightly dry; fruity; tinglingly spicy; somewhat nutty; delicate bitter-tart wood notes

A solid bottling that, in comparison, does not have quite as good cards. The nose offers a freshness with a full orange aroma that is unusual for Couvreur, which, however, does not continue on the palate, contrary to what is expected at the beginning.
    • Nose
      87 87
The nose is slightly fine and relatively fresh for a couvreur. In blind tasting, I would guess that the alcohol content would be much lower.
Orange jam, oak seasoning, pickled cherries, tangerine soda, walnuts, vanilla, strawberries, hazelnut chocolate and a little tobacco.
    • Taste
      84 84
Nice, full and slightly oily. Well-integrated alcohol.
Cherries and oranges, oak seasoning, espresso and dark chocolate, lovage, ripe grapes.
    • Finish
      85 85
Medium-long finish. Dark orange chocolate, pickled cherries and old, dry wood.

A wonderful port bottling. Nice complex, spicy and deep. You definitely have to give the whisky a lot of time in the glass to get the full experience.
    • Nose
Deep dark fruits and the accompanying sweetness rise into the nose. Overripe plums and grapes. Heavy wine notes and hints of freshly oiled leather. The alcohol is noticeable as an overlying, subtle spiciness. If you give him enough time, you can still find tobacco, chocolate and roasted coffee beans.
    • Taste
It runs creamy soft on the tongue. Spice is more prevalent here than the fruity sweetness from the nose. This one comes more from dark caramel. But then also from raisins. Here, too, a sharpness is only noticeable in the background and aromas. Heavy, dark aromas predominate. Sweetness and flavor merge and give the whisky depth and complexity.
    • Finish
The aftertaste is long, but not as long as I expected. First the flavor fades, then the sweetness. What remains is a slight, pleasant sharpness.

As was to be expected, this Couvreur is once again very successful. One thing in advance; the malt is so charged with aromas and can therefore "breathe" for half an hour, or even better, an hour before the actual smell.

Blackberry and cherry are first clearly noticeable. You can also perceive gummy bears, light grapes and a dry nutty note; roasted peanuts?
    • Taste
      89 89
Sweet and dry at the same time. The mouth is literally sticky from the inside. Very fruity and still quite strong. Now aromas of dark chocolate, leather and coffee can also be clearly felt.
    • Finish
      91 91
Very long and warming finish. The fruitiness lingers on the tongue for a long time.
