Whisky Reviews for Allt-a-Bhainne 2000 SV

7 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 86.58 points

  1. Carsten scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

    Allt-a-Bhainne, 20y, 2000-2021, Fresh Sherry Butt Finish, Cask 11, SV, 52.6%
    Color: mahogany
Nose: chocolate, oranges, damp wood, balsamic vinegar
    Body: medium
Mouth: clearly alcohol, chocolate, mocha, oranges, herbs
Finish: medium / long, alcoholic warming, dark chocolate, mocha, wood
Conclusion: 85P, quite alcoholic, delivers what is currently trendy. Dark color, clear notes of sherry, seems somehow out of round to me, although it has no obvious off-notes.

  2. ConvalRen scored this whisky 83 points Connoisseur

Great liquid spoiled by sherry finish. Too sherried and intense.

Probably a classic example of the practice of combining several "unfinished" barrels in a wet sherry barrel in order to add more "content" (and deep red color) to the malt. In this case, the result is a moderately complex whisky that shows its age and also conveys the (currently) popular, generically delicious flavors, but without significantly differentiating itself from others "of its kind". Tastes good, but you don't miss anything. A splash of water can help open.

Leading factors - in addition to raisins and vanilla - are very aromatic shortbread biscuits / Martins biscuits, with prunes and cherries, spicy oak and wood dust gradually creep up, cinnamon, balsamic tones, plum dachas, canned apricots and pears, strawberries and dates, caramel, orange, honey Flaked almonds
    • Taste
      88 88
oily, thick and tough, soft and creamy, chocolaty caramel with sherry and dried fruits such as dates and plums, hazelnuts, spicy oak with cinnamon and cloves, again Martins biscuits and butter biscuits, sandalwood and cardamom, vanilla and white oak, earthy cocoa, hints of cherry, Clover, mineral tones
    • Finish
      86 86
Soft caramel, fruity sherry with plum liqueur and cherries, vanilla, biscuits, lots of oak, cinnamon, walnuts and blanched almonds, clover and barley malt, honey, a bit of stamina is missing here
