Tones of the warm Odessa August estuary.
    • Nose
      87 87
Seaweed washed ashore in the estuary, spicy and sweet evening, churchkhela, grape leaves.
    • Taste
      86 86
Sweet and immediately bitter with notes of kombucha, mold and old catacombs, carefully hiding their secrets.
    • Finish
      86 86
Sweet, tart, glancing away into the setting sun sinking into the sea.

Was able to convince in our tasting among 7 whiskys with 19 participants.
A round vengeance, but a little too mild.
A higher alcohol content would do him good.

My first Tormore, but with an unusual finish. Not bad in any regard, and even though I don't usually like wine maturations this one does not bother me much.

However, I'm not too sure if the malt under the finish is that noteworthy either. Rather it feels like the additional time in wine cask did not elevate the malt in any meaningful ways. Simply put, it did not wow me. The uniqueness of the finish does earn an extra point from me, though.
    • Nose
Sweet ripe cherries, treacle, ripe banana, some tropical fruits & spices, slight savouriness
    • Taste
Oily texture, tart cherries & plums, a whole orange, wine tannins
    • Finish
Fairly long, treacle, plum skin, brown sugar, almonds & nuts, slightly vegetal tannins

Well, very nice, but not really complex and spectacular for its age. I had a more promising impression when I smelled it for the first time.
It is nice, however, that the wine barrel does not predominate (as is unfortunately the case with the Tamnavulin Red Wine Cask, for example), but that there is a good mixture.
    • Nose
      82 82
Restrained, the influence of the wine is noticeable, plus cherries, strawberries, walnuts and grapes. But overall here too in the background.
The alcohol can also be felt minimally, but it never disappears completely and even gets slightly stronger over time.
    • Taste
      84 84
First sweet, then quickly tart. A bit of forest honey and lemon, then a dryness and a fruity sweetness dominate, minimally also grapes. Overall rather flat.
    • Finish
      82 82
      Course to medium length.
Dry, but also a certain acidity and minimal sweetness.

On the nose honey bread, vanilla, oak, mango and a little citrus. A bit watery on the palate at the beginning, then spicy and sweet. The finish is oak-spicy and surprisingly long-lasting.

Good whisky, elegant, diverse... but could be more full-bodied imho. Usually lower abv. in older bottlings does not matter much b/c mostly water evaporates over time leaving a more concentrated version of the whisky behing. However this one seems rather fragile and a bit weak-ish in my opinion. Try before you buy, especiall at that price.
