  1. Totoro scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

Surprisingly tropical on the palate once some air has been able to work its magic in the opened bottle. Good texture at 46 percent. It‘s spicy and youthful, but certainly not too young, while a puff of smoke enhances the finish.
    A nice, uncomplicated summer/holiday sipper.

Loch Lomond. You need to get to understand it. I love them.
    • Nose

After some time it opens up. In the beginning it is very closed. When it opens up you get a clear nose full of tropical fruits and the funky notes which generally suit Loch Lomond.
Some heater and fresh cut grass are in the background.
    • Taste
      86 86
Burst of sweetness, some sucrose. Also quite some tropical fruits and peaches. Something which we in Dutch call boterbabbelaars. A butter and creamy sweet with some vanilla.
    • Finish
      83 83
Medium length. This is the downside of the whisky . It is a bit bitter and short, not much taste here to be honest.

NOSE: Lots of fresh citrus, mainly orange. Then creme brulee with freshly burnt sugar. A whiff of liqorice towards salmiak. With a few drops of water yellow fruits come out as well. (88-89p)
TASTE: Quite fruity with citrus fruits; lemon, orange, qumqat. Medium to medium rich moutfeel, good viscosity. With a few drops of water it loses a little of its citric intensity while becoming slightly sweeter and creamier. (88-89p)
FINISH: Citrus, ginger and white pepper. Fairly long. With a few drops of water it loses some of its citrus fruit and becomes slightly more spicy. (87p)
OVERALL: A citrus dream! Total score 88 points.

I just don't get. Loch Lomond distillery; a very underrated distillery, and I am the last one to admit they are sexy:
    - You don't find them on the shelves at Schiphol airport.
    - They are sitting in an old paint factory at a not so nice industrial estate
    - They don't have a fancy visitors center
    - Their whisky does not give the Islay peat sensation; nor the Glendronach Sherry sensation

But if you would just open up a bit to their whiskies.......

Initially very closed, if not to say completely closed. But give it some 25-30 minutes of air (and your precious time) and some hand-warming and you will be rewarded with an excellent sweet and floral nose. Tropical fruit all over the place with a touch of vanilla and grass.
    • Taste
      86 86
This is the 5rd dram from the bottle, and I can confirm that it is much better than the 1st one. It needed some air in the bottle. Oily and buttery structure. Mild spices well balanced with the fruity sweetness.
    • Finish
      85 85
Again better than the first drams I took from this bottle. First 2 drams were a tad watery in the finish. But there is no sign of any watery finish left. Medium in length.

And forgot to mention; it is a NAS, which tells me that not all NAS whiskies are that bad.
And no, I am not a golf player at all.

Apple, pear and marzipan. In the mouth more citrus fruit (grapefruit) and almond. Aftertaste is slightly bitter and not very long. (gets longer with some water)

Blind tasting: fresh green fruits, including grapefruits, on a sweeter caramel background. Has a slightly dirty/metallic edge and a whiff of smoke on the finish. I enjoyed this one, and guessed it to be a Ben Nevis because of the metallic notes. It turned out to be this Loch Lomond, which really delivers for its low price! It stood its ground quite well in the high quality line-up that followed. How nice to have tasted this one unprejudiced!

Very surprising, I like this a lot and it's only €40 a bottle.
    • Nose
      86 86
Light, floral and fruity, but pretty complex considering this is a NAS (tasting this blind I expected something close to 20 years on a refill-bourbon barrel). White ripe fruits, apple, pear, galia melon, sweet citrus, something tropical, butterscotch. Buried underneath are a slight vanilla note and some honied liquorice.
    • Taste
      86 86
Full and creamy, the white fruits from the nose accompanied by citrus and clearer tropical fruits like peach and mango. Also more fudginess, honey and liquorice. Some peppery wood spices.
    • Finish
      85 85
Medium length: continuing on the fudge and tropical sweetness, introducing some more fruity bitterness but it remains rather sparkling.

Good value for money, only in finish it gets a little less, bitterness takes over then. But overall a nice pleasant whisky, easy drinkable daily dram this could be.
    • Nose
      85 85
Fruity, citrus, floral, green apples. LAter on more sweetness. Powder sugar, and caramel.
    • Taste
      85 85
Sparkling, a sour base, fruity, malty, orange. Pretty creamy, honey. Then some bitterness, orange zest.
    • Finish
      83 83
Now more smooth, fruity, orange zest, some wine gums. Middle long. Later on some licorice, but bitterness dominates.

    Without water:
intense, slightly peaty, condensed flavours of fruits, yeast extract, Caramac; seaweed; a bit funky almost in a Campbeltown way.

With a teaspoon full of water on a dram, it immediately opens up. The aroma is now less alcoholic; fruity and yeasty, in a very pleasant way. Very clean. More refined. After little time, the nose gets even more refined / assertive.

Sweet arrival, then fruity, slightly citrus sour, herbacious notes now pop up, followed by wood bitter aromas; nice development; medium finish.

For that price, a pleasant surprise!
An age statement would be great, though; -1 point.

Typical bourbon barrel. Lots of sweet accents: toffee, caramel, vanilla. Everything is lined with fruity, sour, even citrus accents. Nice nose. Pretty greasy.
    • Taste
      82 82
Sweet. Caramel. Toffee. Later on fresh fruit. Maybe even citrus. A little smoke. Traces of spices.
    • Finish
      81 81
Slightly warming up. Some sweets. Caramel. Medium-long finish.

What a lovely dram again from Loch Lomond! The annual golf release is always a surprise. Last year and the year before that they nailed it in my opinion so obviously I was curious to this years release. And it didn’t let me down!
    • Nose
Lovely tropical fruits like one can expect when drinking Loch Lomond. (Dried) Apricot and cantaloupe melon. After this there is a sea of sweet flavors like sultana’s, vanilla, caramel fudge, butterscotch and honey. In the background I get Dutch candy flavors with licorice and laurel.
    • Taste
A great full, sweet and buttery body with again loads of tropical and sweet candy-like flavors. It’s gentle, balanced and pleasant. It really focuses on the sweet side of the plate, giving . Simply lovely.
    • Finish
A great medium/long finish with flavors of nougat and peanuts. A great touch of smoke gets in at this part. It really compliments the experience.

For just €40 this is a true BFYB!
