Whisky Reviews for Hazelburn CV

Following the success of its heavily-peated Longrow CV expression, without an
age statement, J A Mitchell & Co Ltd of Campbeltown has followed up with a
Springbank CV and now a Hazelburn CV. Versions of the trio were previously
available in a triple-pack of 20cl bottles. Hazelburn is triple-distilled and
was first produced in 1997. Eight and 12-year-old expressions are also available
in addition to CV. Initially slightly mashy and herbal on the nose, with acetone
and cigarette packets. Citric and maltier with time. Orange, ginger, vanilla and
sherbet zest on the spicy palate. The finish is medium in length and spicy, with
a slight suggestion of salt. A fresh, breezy, aperitif whisky.

Very Springbank style. Salty, slightly smoky and the beautiful candied orange peel. A young but delicious whisky.

  3. granella2003 scored this whisky 79 points Connoisseur

He has a beautiful light golden color, with the nose a

    malty and spicy fragrance.
    The mouth contains

Hazelburn CV tones of honey, banana and apple peel, malt
pencil eraser, kerosene and a tad greasy.

The finish is quite long and

greasy with citrus and candied fruit.

  4. The Macallan scored this whisky 72 points Connoisseur

A reasonable dram with some complexity. Although the CV versions (Springbank/Hazelburn) are not my favorite ones, this is not a bad one. It devellops quite a lot (more sweetness - peardrops).
    • Nose
Pure: light sea breeze, malty sweetness, slightly peaty and woody (diluted: fruity maltiness, some briney notes).
    • Taste
Pure: briney, spicyness, slightly some vanillins (diluted: salty sweetness, nice wood spices, some fruit).
    • Finish
Pure: warming with some spicy notes (diluted: floral like notes with some white pepper).

Sweet nose with some grassy notes. A bit harsh on the palate and with bitter notes coming through in the finish. Lacking in complexity, but a nice relatively easy-drinking dram.

A sweet mix of sweet vanilla with malty cereals, honey and flowers. Fresh and fullbodied snd again honey and barley, very pleasant in the mouth. A middle to long finish with a warm and sweet feeling. It reminds me on some irish whiskys isn`t it?

  7. hsmithjr scored this whisky 78 points Connoisseur

No my favorite, but worth a try.
    • Nose
Spring flowers. Lightly malty. Kellog's Frosted Flakes cereal
    • Taste
Cream. Cereal and malt. Light notes of flower shoppe. Burnt sugar?
    • Finish
Medium short, but very refreshing. A springtime or summer dram.
