This is very good. Well sherried but not overpowering, with balance from that base Edrington (allegedly) spirit blend. For incredible value as well. Value (£49) : 9/10
    • Nose
What stands out most to me is that wonderfully intriguing dunnage funk and wet moss note on the nose. Alongside that is a myriad of red berries, figs and sultanas. Big on candied orange peels. Rhubarb pie with a caramel sauce. A wonderful nuttiness to it as well with toasted pecans, marzipan and a touch of ginger spice. A layer of bitter dark chocolate coating it all. This definitely smells well aged.
    • Taste
Oily on the palate. Light initially it starts off very fresh orange forward. Then it gets darker and richer with more stewed fruits and chocolate ganache coming through. More rhubarb and an apple turnover. Dark roast coffee with your fruitcake. Drying tannins from the oak bring notes of tea leaves and tobacco. Some freshly cracked black pepper spice leads into the finish.
    • Finish
This is long, with oils from the palate keeping it going. Again rather drying with those tannic notes but again big on chocolate oranges here in addition to the dunnage notes that return again. Some toffee sweetness returns in the finish.

Super dusty. Heaps of shellac and furniture polish. Burnt brownies. Burnt oranges and toffee. Roasted cashews. Heaps of earthy funk. Faint peat.
Powerful entry. Quite full and oily. Really good. Expresso and dark chocolate. Some orange. Ginger and stewed plums.

Good but rather bitter. Still, it's good.

I swear there's a little bit of sulphur. Luckily not much at all (if any) after breathing. Heathery smoke, nuts, tobacco, dry leather, dark chocolate, dried red berries, very toffeed. Definitely on the more bitter side of sherried whisky.

Ah, a bit fruitier now with spice too. Red apples, mandarin, dates, purple grapes, menthol. Heathery smoke and dark chocolate are still quite prevalent, but the balance is better. Water brings the peat out more, but it's a little bitter, so I think I prefer the neat dram.

A bit too bitter initially. But hey, it's still a bit fruity and has lots of menthol and heather honey, sherry.

Already you can tell it's old from the nose. The sherried sweetness is there, but it's not overpowering or too sharp like some younger sherried whiskies can be. Instead, the sweetness is well integrated and quickly opens up to more subtle leathery, musty and nutty aromas. It's still very juicy, with stewed apples, sultanas, a slightly bitter rhubarb aroma, and almond nougat. After about 20 minutes breathing a bready aroma emerges.

Very dry, with slightly bitter herbaceous notes, tobacco and Szechuan peppercorn. A little dark chocolate and oak complete the experience.

Very long and drying, achieving a good balance of bitter tannins, peppery oak and a nutty, fruity sweetness. A little water helps balance the finish a little more, which does lean more towards the bitter side.

This was cracking. One of the best blends I've tasted. Good value (though I admit I thought it was 70cl when I bought it so was a little surprised with a 50cl bottle showed up!)

Very heavy on the sherry. Christmas on the nose and fruity complexity on the palette. For my part, I didn't think water helped and certainly shortened the finish. A very good dram.

There's an astringent note throughout for me, which spikes at the start of the finish. The sherry shines after that, though. Malty and dusty on the nose. Very fruity on the palate and finish.

I suspect the astringent note is a slightly bitter peat. Regardless, a really good blend.

A beautiful malt blend. Fantastic, intriguing nose draws you in. Great mouthfeel. Flavours all over the tongue build and develop over time but very well balanced. Medium to long finish. Richness carried consistently from nose to finish. It doesn't let you down. I recommend as great value for money. Best blend I've had, I think. I've had the bottle open a couple of times over the last few days and it keeps getting better. This is whisky that has slept for 2 decades, so let it breath to get the best out of this. I would buy this again.

A wonderful little 500ml bottling with a real personality. The flavour profile has a real campfire outdoors vibe. The finish is sublime, the nose a delight and the taste somehow languishes in the shadow of those. Overall, a terrific bottling.
