The taste doesn't quite keep what the nose promises. But quite suitable for an after-work dram.
    • Nose
      84 84
Somewhat exaggeratedly floral (maybe lilies of the valley, lilac, spring flowers), sweetener sweetness, apple cider sauce and also hints of forest floor scent, maybe you can also call it freshly felled birch wood. Is that because of the birch wine? Slightly alcoholic.
    • Taste
      76 76
Something burns, fruit candies, the floral notes are there too. Slightly bitter and astringent.
    • Finish
      79 79
Slightly woody and astringent. Medium-long finish.

    • Nose
Vanilla, green apple, flowery, fruity, elderflower
    • Taste
Winegum, elderflower, citrus, woody, vanilla, strawberry
    • Finish
      Soft, spicy, citrus, vanilla, woody

Gosh…. A wonderfully fresh and fruity Scandinavian that stays true to itself with these forest aromas.
    • Nose
Warm, soft and fruity aromas such as pear and quince jelly impose themselves with herbal wine aromas. Chewing gum and fruit gum alternate with apples and malty notes. At the same time, floral notes of flowering shrubs are present.
    • Taste
Is it soft, wine aromas with quince jelly and pears spread in the mouth with herbal sweets. Canned fruit and sweet wood agree. Pine resin and forest anthill provide a menthol fresh mouthfeel.
    • Finish
There's a lot going on here: Chewing gum, quince, pears, wine aromas and sweet fruit spread are combined with herbs and menthol herbal candies. Fortunately, the whole thing takes a long time and leaves a nice tingling sensation.

Who dares Wins! Mackmyra has shown quite often that they like to experiment with exotic barrel types and that they do so successfully. The Björksav is very straightforward from the nose to the finish, but still very well done and, above all, dangerously easy to drink. Great for summer.

    • Nose
Pleasantly sweet with a slight alcohol note. Luckily, this goes away relatively quickly. The intense sweetness reminds me of brown sugar and honey, and is accompanied by caramel candy, toffee and vanilla. There is also a sweet and sour wine note that I would associate with birch wine. I've never drunk birch wine, but it seems a bit too sweet and light for sherry. The character goes more in the direction of Sauternes. This wine note brings associations of sweet (candied) fruits such as apples, pears and apricots. Behind this is a hint of citrus and herbal notes that become more intense over time. These herbs, paired with the distinct sweetness, remind me of sage and ricola candies. The oak stays in the background and gets a little stronger after the first taste.
    • Taste
Pleasantly soft and, like the nose, very sweet. First, I find caramel and vanilla again, as well as lots of fruit. In contrast to the nose, the citrus fruits come out more in the mouth. Nevertheless, I can also find the apples, pears and apricots again. Likewise the honey and the herbal sweets. The oak is a bit more intense than in the nose and brings a delicate bitterness, which harmonises perfectly with the herbal notes. On the other hand, I am somewhat surprised by a slightly buttery mouthfeel that reminds me of popcorn.
    • Finish
The mouthfeel initially remains sweet with vanilla and butter biscuits. Then the sweetness goes back a bit and it gets slightly bitter. There are also fruits, herbal candies and almonds. A hint of oak lingers along with the delicate bitterness.

Fresh, fruity, very tasty. A light whisky for balmy summer evenings with a good PLV.
    • Nose
Sweet apple and fresh green pear meet some liquid blossom honey. Some honeydew melon emerges, vanilla and malt sweetness with clover blossoms before the whisky becomes spicier with aromas of deciduous forest and young moss.
    • Taste
Apple and honey with malty sweetness. There is an increasingly clear wooden flavor from the old sherry casks.
    • Finish
Honeydew melon with young wood. After a while, something slightly grassy appears.

This Mackmyra with the quite exciting finish convinces with its beautiful fruitiness and the strong oak influence as a contrast. And if you value it, you will also find something that could be traced back to the birch wine.
    • Nose
Immediately fruity on the nose with sweet apples and slightly sour gooseberries. But right behind you can also find spicier oak freight. There is also some caramel and a white wine note. In the background something reminiscent of blossom syrup, the finish in the birch wine barrel could be responsible for this.
    • Taste
Creamy and mild on the tongue at first with dry, tart apple. But then very soon a strong oak spice with a clear pepper sets in. The apple is now complemented by a few drops of lemon juice and the alcohol can also be felt.
    • Finish
The finish is dry with strong spice and fermented apples as well as some honey and lingers on the palate for a long time, especially with the oak spice. The blossom syrup is also back in the finish.

A surprisingly tasty cask influence. The nose is sweet as if you were smelling a can of fruit cocktail. The taste is also sweet, but balanced with lots of spices. I got associations with tarragon, cardamom and white pepper, on a mineral and chalky background. That also lingers in the aftertaste. The mouthfeel is soft. No offnotes, youthfulness or wateriness to be found. It is finished and in balance. It is certainly a unique taste, probably not for everyone, but I thought it was very successful!

    • Nose
Around. Yellow apples and plums. Some water mint. Custard, a hint of wax. Behind lemon thyme.
    • Taste
Creamy with a pleasant spiciness. Apples, banana, some honey and almonds. White chocolate. A hint of peach and mint. Flowery black tea.

I don't know how birch sap or wine smells or tastes, the influences on the whisky were tasty and more than clearly recognizable for me. For some, these may well be too dominant. The simply different, fruity-sweet but also spicy notes from the birch wine barrel are there immediately, vinous notes or light acidity similar to a sweet white wine come through, vanilla comes up. In the taste, too, the previously unknown, creamy and sweet fruity note, vanilla, spice from the barrel, everything complementary, above all there is a clear fruity and floral sweetness. I don't find pepper and aniseed, but ginger at the end. Medium-long and quite spicy-sweet finish. The whisky is different due to its maturation and therefore really good for me, something different. But he is clearly on the sweet side, if you like spicy-dry whisky, you are probably wrong here. Also for me, due to the very dominant barrel influence - in addition, it is my first Mackmyra - no real comparison with a Scotch is possible.

I was surprised to taste this. Not at all what I'm used to, making a very fun experience. Like a liquor made from pine woods and herbs, a great and flavorful dram.

Very refreshing. It smells floral and pure, like breathing in pure oxygen.
    • Taste

Like sweet herbal candy; notes of pine and wood and strong herbs like lemongrass and mint.
    • Finish

A rather sweet and sticky finish.

Fantastic nose, a bit strong alcohol in the finish, but all in all a great thing. I am pleasantly surprised.

Smell: Pear, elderberry, pinimenthol, minerally great balance, sweetish tip, well integrated alcohol, pine, beaten fir tree, powdered sugar over warm cake, according to yeasty / brewer's yeast

Taste: fruity, yellow fruits again, nice oiliness, freshly sawn wood, according to astringent, pear, unripe banana, German. Bitter note also in the aftertaste, bath additive, medium. reverberation

Conclusion: a whisky that is sure to polarize - you have to like the bitter notes on the palate in particular, but then with these notes as a Campari substitute it will definitely fit well as an aperitif on the hot terrace ...

    • Nose
immediately there is a flowery, fruity sweetness; spicy wood is also there immediately; the fruity note gives way to a strong sweet note, which lies somewhere between industrial apple juice, vanilla and toffee. Very interesting; I also think I have a light herbal note here and there,
    • Taste
      fruity, but immediately a warm, strong oak comes through (just like with Grönt Te), always sweet and fruity. This sweet note paired with the strong oak harmonises very well;
    • Finish
spicy, dried fruit, in between light citrus; also slightly nutty; but generally more spicy and warming and less sweet than in terms of aroma and taste.

      This dram is really fun

Tip: give the malt enough time to breathe - the aromas become stronger over time.
emphasizes fruity and sweet aroma. The taste is emphasized like elderberry - this aroma has burned itself into me.
    Nice early summer malt.
[85-81 = delicious -> get a second bottle if price is within the range]; Tendency towards more and towards my next higher category [90 - 86 = extremely tasty -> get a second bottle, don´t look at the prize].
    Overall, a top whisky.
Sniffed and sipped again at the glass from a distance: "Birch sap" somehow fits as a description, even if I don't know how birch tastes ;-)
    • Nose
initially sweet and fruity, powdered sugar, green and yellow fruit notes of apricot, plum, berry notes / cherry. Slight hints of citrus.
With a little air: the sweetness becomes stronger, turns into a brown sugar; the fruits also have a stronger aroma. Elderflower and sour cherries are added.
Overall even more floral than at the beginning.
    • Taste
Extremely soft for the first second, then a seasoning is added and it immediately turns into a creamy-oily consistency.
The elderflower comes through again very well - as if it were elderflower juice ... In addition, there are other fruit notes that bring a slightly sour note (citrus / lime).
      But everything goes well together.
Second sip: spicy, slightly sweet, and then elderflower again. (Nice, but it's a matter of taste. I like it)
    • Finish
Fruit notes remain, light spice / oak note. Dryness at the back.
Such a slight "forest note" / eucalyptus sticks to the tongue. (I like that too)

    • Nose
Fruity, flowery, nice sweetness, elderflower, pear, light citrus notes and light cherries
    • Taste
Nice fruity freshness, already with the first sip in the mouth, light citrus note, elderberry and pear also come through well, vanilla, cotton candy
    • Finish
Fruitiness remains. The sweetness becomes drier and coniferous wood fades away

    official description:

Mackmyra Björksav (birch sap) is a Swedish single malt whisky that was inspired by the long-awaited return of spring. A large proportion of the Mackmyra Björksav seasonal whisky was finally matured in barrels that were saturated with Swedish birch wine from the wine producer Grythyttan Vin. The result is a flowery whisky with fresh flavor and a certain sweetness of vanilla caramel. Behind Grythyttan Vin are Per and Ingunn, two passionate winemakers who want to highlight the taste and size of the Nordic forests. With berries, fruits and birch sap, they create natural berry wines that show respect for nature and the ingredients it produces. A natural taste and pleasure experience. Grythyttan only uses the natural pantry with no additives whatsoever as they are completely convinced that the ingredients can speak for themselves. Their work takes the product and the planet into consideration, from harvesting the ingredients to quality control, fermentation, storage and bottling. For this spring edition we have again worked with the small winemaker Grythyttan. Using their birch wine, we have again created a Swedish whisky aroma in classic craftsmanship that will fascinate experts and enthusiasts alike. The excellent fruit wines from Grythyttan show great respect for nature and the raw materials on which they are based. Because just like us, Grythyttan only uses ingredients from nature, without additives. In Björksav you can find everything that belongs to the Swedish whisky spring: it is fruity and gentle, the acid clings to the texture of the birch sap and finds a fine balance
