Initially fruity, but over time the floral character becomes more and more concise and the light barrel char also becomes stronger.
The taste is then typical ex-bourbon style with light fruits, the barrel char character is clearly noticeable.
Is getting drier and the tongue stays covered for a long time.
Not bad, but not the over-the-top even now.
Anyone who likes pure ex-Bourbon whiskys and can cope with light smoke can definitely grab it here; I find the price at around 65 but quite heavy.
The smoke and the floral from the nose give a nice complexity, which is then more limited in taste to the smoke. The heather smoke reminds me a lot of Highland Park.
[86 - 82 = good whisky -> get a second bottle? Maybe...]; in this case the sample is enough for me.
maybe get a sample / bottle sharing first, otherwise the disappointment could be too big!
    • Nose
      84 84
      light fruits (fresh pears, unripe apricots, green apples) together with a citrus fruit, also has something of a lychee;
with a floral touch - with heather becoming more and more dominant in the nose, light smoke from the barrel char, which becomes stronger over time.
Slight sweetness (powdered sugar), a little honey, caramel (but very far in the background).
Grassy, wet hay and fresh wood.
    • Taste
      82 82
quite soft on the tongue, light spice is added. The light fruits come through better in taste than in the nose.
If it becomes drier, barrel char is available again, the smoke still sticks to the tongue, even with a light spice.
Second sip: fruity, spicy, but still restrained for the 48%, slight ginger spiciness on the tongue.
    • Finish
      80 80
the tongue remains covered with spicy tannins, the influence of smoke is there, but then becomes weaker and weaker; medium to long finish.

pear, melon, ham, cucumber, rhubarb, quite a lot of apples, tonic, apple candy lollipops
    • Taste

red apple, bit of red pepper, some elderberries, fresh fruit with a bit of a pineapple bite.
    • Finish
      83 83
yellow apple, black pepper, lemonpeel, bit acidic, dry wood, wood splinters even.

with water: if grain notes are added, I like it better without water

Conclusion: I rarely had such a pronounced floral honey character in the glass, unfortunately it is too flowery and too one-sided for me
    • Nose
very floral note, flower meadow, rapeseed honey, lavender, vanilla, subtle smoky note that is very reminiscent of tar, alcohol is well integrated, buttery
    • Taste
nice honey sweetness, very intense, again very floral, the alcohol is stronger here
    • Finish
medium length, endless honey, floral, subtle smoke

I like the nose best of this Benromach. Would I buy it myself for the retail price? Not for the market prices, for the cheapest German price I might buy me one bottle.

Had this one in a blind tasting, I was very surprised with being a Benromach, somehow a distillery that seldom triggers my attention, maybe I should pay more interest in this distillery though.
Very pleasant whisky, very versatile nose, with some peaty, earthy and sweet elements. In taste a little less versatile, but with a very attractive sparke.
    • Nose
      87 87
Pretty full nose, a slight touch of peat, earthy, a bit musty, fake leather, spicy. Then some more sweetness, caramel, powder sugar even, then towards tobacco and an ashy touch. Very versatile.
    • Taste
      86 86
Pretty sparkling, licorice, some slight peat, spicy pepper, then orange, malty, and apples.
    • Finish
      86 86
Sparkling, licorice, spicy, a touch of peat again, and pepper. Pretty long, woody.

    Nose:
Vanilla, butter croissant, apple strudel. Watermelon, some lime zest, peach and quince.
Very subtle smoke, with a slight scent of heather.

    Mouth:
Light fruity and vanilla, salty butter. Pleasant alcohol strength, lies lightly on the tongue.
Slight ginger notes that bring a little spiciness, pineapple, yellow-fleshed fruits.

    Finish:
Short to medium length, surprisingly, this is where the smoke comes out most strongly in the form of ash, slightly grassy, vanilla.

    85/100

    Conclusion:
A really nice bourbon cask summer whisky, ideal if you like something lighter.
Sometimes it reminded me of the unpeated Caol ila from the aroma

The Benromach 2009 11 Years for Germany is a fine offering, but doesn't live up to my expectations entirely.
    • Nose
Lovely fruity arrival, like walking in an orchard while there's a bonfire somewhere in the distance. Apples, quinces and butter, accompanied by subtle notes of lemon zest. Touches of burlap as well, followed by a gentle minerality and melon skin.
    • Taste
Surprisingly, a somewhat thin mouthfeel. Or at least relatively to what I'm used from Benromach. Sweet and fruity combined with smoke and ashes. Creamy vanilla, lemon pith and a touch of pineapple. Some damp oak and ginger as well, with some light floral touches.
    • Finish
Greener notes, vegetal at times. Lingering smoke.

  17. z1reticuli scored this whisky 85 points Expert Junior

Seems to me that Benromach deserves more than pure bourbon maturation. Besides the sensation classics of bourbon maturation like vanilla, and oak (Eichewürze), you get subtle orange peels, did not find any coconut.
I found the subtle Benromach smoke there as well.
Finish in my opinion is medium long, and unfortunately about alcohol in the second half.
I would like to read other opinions, please challenge me.

    taste
