Especially the nose is very pleasant. A typical old-fashioned nose from an era which is unfortunately long gone.
    • Nose
Nice dusty and muffy nose. Very fragrant. Delicate sweetness. Bananas, papaya and tangerines. Some oak but also floral notes. Old books in a classic library.
    • Taste
Clean and light. Even a little thin. Doesn't deliver the expectations of the nose. Subtle sherry notes. Stewed fruits (figs) and oak.
    • Finish
Not that long. The fruit remains however. Also some bitterness in the end.

    • Nose
      87 87
The nose is marked by juicy pear and yellow fruits. After aeration, it develops on greener notes, including vegetal (white flowers and peels of bananas and unripe mangoes), even a hint of solvent
    • Taste
      86 86
The palate is a little unbalanced: despite the reduction, alcohol is (too) present and the mouth is watery. It deviates from the nose with greater delicacy (sweetness): The overripe and very sweet banana (retro-olfaction)
    • Finish
      84 84
      The finish is short

    Nose 22.5, taste 22, finish 21.5, balance 22

the old GlenGrant in the Glenker did not really want to reveal himself, he pretended to be too simple, but in the bubbly glass of whisky blenders, he was fine - there was a pear, nuts, and lemonade, citrus. Nose 22.5. It tastes the same as citrus and lemonade with a nut note, 22, the aftertaste is not too long but long enough as for such a 40 degree old man, 21.5. balance 22

[October, 2006]  Together with friends I emptied a bottle that I bought for 81 Euro in June, 2006.

    In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50 - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 87,5.  My notes state a delicious and very quaffable dram...

  10. checkpointuk scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur Color: Rusty red / Amontillado sherry
Nose: Salty with pickled raisins, lots of orange extract, old sherry, wood, leather and traces of furniture polish. Soft, without any spikes, fruity and quite sweet with oily nut flavors.
Taste: Also on the tongue is a soft structure of orange, mint, wood, nut, a lot of sticky honey and sugar liqueur. The salty seasoning polarizes before the malt dips into the tender-bitter and herbal-prone track.
Finish: Medium long - now bitter, with some wood and many herbs. Coffee, mocha, liquorice, paper and smoky soap flavors are on the tongue.
    87 points (nose: 90 / taste: 87 / finish: 85)

  11. St. Pauli scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

We have a "sniffer" again: apart from the wonderful nose, I'm not really impressed. Given the prices nowadays, I would not recommend this one unless you are a Glen Grant collector.
    • Nose
Quite intense, yet smooth. There is a clear dominance of the fruit: in the beginning it smells like pear, but it develops quickly to banana and papaya. Furthermore, there is some waxy malt, a bit dusty like an old library, and a little sawdust. Perfumed herbs (eucalyptus and fresh coriander) complete the nose.
    • Taste
The attack is reletively sweet and soft, but thin, with again a dominance of the fruit. On the mid-palate, spices kick in (pepper, ginger) and also the herbs become louder and the taste gets turns a bit bitter.
    • Finish
The bitterness of the mid-palate is continued in the finish. There is a tie between the fruitiness (banana candy) and the spicy and herbal elements.

A nice simple profile, quite enjoyable but a little too much toffee for me.
    • Nose
Dark forrest fruits, sherry, trace of peat and toffee.
    • Taste
Spirity on coffee, chocolate, slight vinegar notes and toffee like the nose suggested
    • Finish
Quite long, smooth and a little sweet

  14. markjedi1 scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

This is the perfect company for a banana dessert. Apart from that, it is a nice, but not complex, malt.
    • Nose
The nose is wonderfully fruity with banana peel at the front. Some more fruit and breakfast biscuits. Yes, this reminds me of the baby bowl of fruit that you feed the little ones. Sans the alcohol, évidemment. Hints of mandarin and some malt. Slightly dusty. Quite straighforward, but very good indeed.
    • Taste
On the palate, it is fairly light, both bodywise and spicewise. A little shy, actually. Slightly drying as if from a fruit tea, with chocolate cakes with orange marmalade. Cinnamon and peach. Banana, again. Pleasant.
    • Finish
The finish is not very long, nor short. Banana until the drying end.

  15. Jean-Brice scored this whisky 89 points Expert Senior

Lack of complexity to type above 90.
    • Nose
Very fruity. Ripe banana. Some spices and dried fruits. Almond paste. Not very complex but melted and very seductive.
    • Taste
In line. There is more influence of sherry than on the nose.
    • Finish
      Long on banana and wood

My rate is for an old 75cl bottling from Italy from end-70s/beginning-80s.
Unfortunately this is the only G&M 25yo Glen Grant in 75cl, but colour & design does not quite fit, but I have too little bottle info to add it...
