Immediately fruity: peaches, melons. Then with a little patience, tropical fruits (dried guavas, passion fruit). Everything is accompanied by a more pastry touch. The Glenburgie 98's markers are there. The nose is a success but the mouth is a little marred by the presence of alcohol which stings the palate a little, too bad.
(90 for the nose and 88 for the mouth)

Smell the woods, malt and juice.
Taste ginger, honey and lemon, with a clear layer and a crisp finish.(It will have a cheese aroma after a while)

    nose:
vanilla, sweet fruitiness on apple juice, on apricot, surprisingly waxy
    yeast and honey
    blocked:
fruity sweetness, on the banana there, on the exotic fruits, it's suddenly spicy and on the almond shell with its bitterness
liquid honey and a return of dried sap with dry woodiness
    final:
vanilla, sweet, candied orchard fruits, the syrup that sticks to the bottom of the pot and the bitter almond to finish and magnify this very fruity dram.

glenburgie has a special taste that is very recognizable, the kind of jackfruit that is sweet and smelly. This is very oily and a lot of beeswax tropical fruit jackfruit.

Really very pleasant to drink, a great daily dram.
    • Nose
Nose that could make me think of a Clynelish without wax. Nice fruity dust. Floral.
    • Taste
Very fruity on the palate with classic tropical fruits. The mango gives way to the banana, then to the melon and so on with each sip. A bit too much alcohol.
    • Finish
      Slightly waxy finish, well peppered.

This one needs time to open but it keeps this vegetal notes I'm not that fond of.
Very good whisky though with its tropical touch.
    • Nose
At first a mix of vegetal and fruity (white fruits) notes. A touch of spices. Tropical notes after a while, floral notes and vegetal notes again. Hints of mineral notes too. Slightly restrained but opens nicely.
    • Taste
First sip gives the same mix of fruits and vegetal notes as the first nosing. Second sip is far more fruity with passion fruits, grapefruits, yellow fruits. Slightly grassy and spicy.
    • Finish
Long, lingering tropical notes and spices.

Close to some fruity and tropical bottlings by Ben Nevis or Clynelish. The nose is a little shy and the alcohol could be better integrated. Still very good

Incredibly soft, buttery and tropical (coconut, passionfruit, papaya, to name a few). The edges are more rounded than some of the sister casks, and there's a deeper layer of tropical syrup that coats the soft wood spice harmoniously. Some candied ginger on the finish with spoonfuls of tropical fruit and cream.

I agree with dram-drinker about the youth. I feel this would've benefitted from another 10 years maturing in the barrel. Overly "green" and unripe fruit. Good, not great. Another 10 years would've made it stellar

Feels rather young and overpriced but bot bad with all the green fruits and austere touch
    • Nose
      88 88
Little bit of green fruits, green apple, green banana, carambole, lime, honeydew, whiffs of solvent, little spices, hints of green house - not bad
    • Taste
      87 87
Punchy, oily, fruity, spicy, subtle sweetness, more green fruits, little herbal, austere, wet hay, hints of cedar wood
    • Finish
      85 85
Medium long, warm, spicy, zesty, lemon peel

In the beginning a bit closed, but once on the temperature I get yellow fruit such as melon, papaya, canned pineapple (metallic edge), ginger and vanilla.
After a while it becomes a bit minerally and waxy à la Clynelish. What you smell is what you taste, so a very nice balance between the fruit, vanilla / ginger and the waxy / mineral side. In short, a very nice Glenburgie from this bottler.

Green tropical fruits, cereals, very nice

  20. Lakerfield did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

    Release price was around €150,-

One good review from a well-known blogger shouldn't justify asking almost twice the RRP on the secondary market. And you shouldn't buy at those prices either, there's lots of other stellar 'Burgies out there at RRP.

Don't be so obsessed with me, Gris :-)

    Notes from whiskynotes.be : 91/100
    • Nose
I’m struck by a rummy note, or even something of tequila at first. A kind of green fruitiness, but it fades rapidly. Over time this becomes more ‘yellow’, more tropical as well. Lime, melons, papaya and pineapple. Vanilla biscuits. Hints of scented candles and honeysuckle. A classic Glenburgie combo.
    • Taste
excellent fruitiness, in between a mid-1970s BenRiach and these undisclosed Bushmills. Think pink grapefruit, guava, passion fruits. Fresh apricots and honey. Jellied fruits as well, and some very light grassy touches towards the end. Maybe candied ginger.
    • Finish
long, still tropical, more on banana (with peel) and gentle oak spice.

    • Finish

      Vanilla, apple and mint.
