I don't think there is a problem with the flavor performance, and it's pretty good.
The downside is that the wine is too dry. Whether it is the smell of peat or the alcohol in the mouth, it seems a little too impatient.
The malty sweetness of the finish is something I think is commendable.

2cl sample from the same set as hs305. I agree with him, based on the three I've tried so far, that the word 'highlights' seems a stretch here.

Opens with a big hit of rubbery smoke, with hay and wet wool arriving shortly afterwards to balance. Sweetens, with lemon juice and icing sugar, wax jacket, twiggy bonfire. Water tames the smoke and adds creaminess.

Massive peat, acrid and imposing. As with the nose, water tones it down, revealing a chalky and citric dram.
    • Finish
      86 86
Quite long, pleasantly sharp, with the lemons making a comeback.

[May, 2021] This is from the "Cadenhead's Recent Highlights Tasting Pack" and I did not find any highlight among the previous five drams so far. So will the last of the line-up change that impression...

...no, these were all average-quality drams only without any specific highlights worth to mention. Even the high-priced Highland Park was rather disappointing given my expectations on such a usually very fine dram. If these were the highlights I wonder about the quality of your average stuff, Cadenhead. Sorry, but "it is as it is" (my taste buds told me) - period.
    • Nose
      85 85
The colour is very pale at white wine and the nose offers an average young peat-driven profile without flaws but without highlights either. What else to say? I skip nosing...
    • Taste
      87 87
The taste is barley sugary sweet and peaty/smoky bitter which is a tasty combination of these opposite flavours but it is rather simple and exchangeable, of course. Easy to quaff, no doubt - but I expect a little more from a highlight.
    • Finish
      86 86
The dram arrives hot and coating on the palate without distracting moments. The finish is long and turns to the bitter smoky side with more cold ashes and a drying ending. Nothing wrong about that, nothing more to say. Some water turns both nose and taste punchier while a further reduction strengthens the bitter side of the profile which drives the dram completely out of balance. I prefer the neat whisky.

Everything is quite simple and once again emphasizes that sherry barrels are more suitable for ledaig. But from the first nose does not leave the feeling that thanks to the bourbon barrel in the aroma of something nice with islay. Therefore 22.5-21.5-21.5-21.5
