It contains the single malts: ELSBURN, WILLOWBURN, THE ALRIK and EMPEROR'S WAY.
I am greeted by a smell like opening a can of paint containing turpentine. The journey continues through a metal door to a smokehouse. The smoke transports a few resinous aromas that are accompanied by a spiciness and thus lead to the heavy sherry notes. Dried fruits and a vanilla sweetness play around the nose and end in the smell of caramel cubes and toffee candies.
Here the Alrik worked best for me without adding water. Starting with a little sharpness at the tip of the tongue, it develops a few bitter aromas and shows its smokiness.
The transition to the finish is brilliant.
After the great nose, the finish is one of the most pleasant for me that I know. All the previous impressions pass me by again. Extremely intense, long and warming.
From the sweet sherry aromas, the specific smoke to the peppery fiery alcohol notes and still very nice and round.
Conclusion: the Alrik actually managed to inspire me again after the ElsBurn. It is not about the motto to put something on top again, but to present yourself in your own way. Brilliant!
