I think the whole box is a really great idea with 4 really fantastic malts.

The Alrik is a very typical handfilled Alrik, in the style of the one released in 2018.

Beautiful greasy smoke meets rich, oily raisins and fine tangerines. In addition, caramel, cake, toffee candy.

    And a really nice label.

The average price of 100 EUR / 0.7 l is not cheap, of course, but still within the limits of what you are used to from the Harz region.

On the website of the distillery, each bottle from the four seasons set had its own note on the flavors. Here is the extract for the Alrik, which stands for autumn:

    Color (not colored):
    Mahogany, forest honey

    The main aromas (not chill-filtered):
    malt
    Raisins
    bitter chocolate
    Oranges
    BBQ
    Campfire
    Smoked sausage
    caramel

The second bottle from the pack of four in the Hercynian Distilling Co. 4 Seasons Box. Is there another increase to be expected compared to the first bottle?
It contains the single malts: ELSBURN, WILLOWBURN, THE ALRIK and EMPEROR'S WAY.

I am greeted by a smell like opening a can of paint containing turpentine. The journey continues through a metal door to a smokehouse. The smoke transports a few resinous aromas that are accompanied by a spiciness and thus lead to the heavy sherry notes. Dried fruits and a vanilla sweetness play around the nose and end in the smell of caramel cubes and toffee candies.

Here the Alrik worked best for me without adding water. Starting with a little sharpness at the tip of the tongue, it develops a few bitter aromas and shows its smokiness.
The transition to the finish is brilliant.

After the great nose, the finish is one of the most pleasant for me that I know. All the previous impressions pass me by again. Extremely intense, long and warming.
From the sweet sherry aromas, the specific smoke to the peppery fiery alcohol notes and still very nice and round.

Conclusion: the Alrik actually managed to inspire me again after the ElsBurn. It is not about the motto to put something on top again, but to present yourself in your own way. Brilliant!

A worthy representative of the Alrik series. I'm guessing here is Oloroso Sherry. The syrupy sweetness is perfectly accompanied by the typical wood smoke as well as leather, antique furniture and nut nougat. Gigantic finish.
