Whisky reviews for North of Scotland 1972 SwWC

  1. Longinus scored this whisky 75 points Expert Senior

Revisiting this after 6 months open in the bottle with roughly one third gone. The bottle hasn't been opened since the last pour.

It has developed a distinct woody bitterness on the palate that persists into the finish. Any fine topnotes that existed when the bottle was new have been lost and the nose has developed an overwhelming solvent note.

This whisky is incredibly fragile, if you have an open bottle, share it and drink it quickly, it won't last on the shelf.
    • Nose
      76 76
Solvent, some light grass notes and a hint of citrus in the background. After 30 minutes open in the glass the nose has collapsed completely and gives off only a whiff of solvent.
    • Taste
      74 74
Initially very thin with the slightest hint of vanilla, but turning bitter quickly, like licking the inside of strip of Oak bark.
    • Finish
      74 74
      Drying, bitter and short.
