Rye-Cask? Really now? I would never have guessed from a blind tasting. Maybe even a rum barrel. Well: the nose is great, even if it's not really Ardbeg-like. The creaminess on the tongue is fun, even if it could have been a little less pointed on first contact. Unfortunately, it bends too quickly in the finish, so you have something of an Ardbeg 10 longer. An "ok" Ardbeg, we'd rather spread the pirate cloak of silence about the price.

A fresh nose that immediately delivers a mixture of well-dosed smoke and fruit salad made from grapefruits, oranges and pineapples. Add a few squirts of lemon. Spices lurk underground, which after a while reveal themselves as rosemary, thyme and tarragon. But the fruits are dominant, fruit sweetness pervades in waves.

Creamy and viscous, quite powerful. Holla, with his 51.8% he is going pretty well. Light fruity notes of grapefruit, pineapple, oranges and citrus juice also dominate on the tongue. There is a certain astringency. Dry wood, grated almonds. The smoke note is rather reserved. Pleasant sweetness, which here on the tongue, in contrast to the nose, is hardly contrasted with spices. Maybe a little pepper.

Kicks off relatively quickly. But it remains nice and creamy and fruity until it ends, peat smoke waves goodbye.

    Nose:
A subtle nose for an Ardbeg. Very pleasant, smoke with a light vanilla and citrus note. Tinny metallic in the background. Light sweet
    Taste:
Immediately UHU disgusting, smoke and again the tinny note. Reminds me of sweat dust the mead. Grade.
    Exit,
Strong start and quickly subsides, tinny and smoke again, and then nothing more comes

    Totally disappointing Ardbeg.

This reasonably priced dram is exactly what I've come to expect by the wonderful people at LVMH. Kudos to those who chose this gem in memory of MH.

I had this Ardbeg at a blind tasting and was very surprised. Never in my wildest dreams i'd guessed this one as an Ardbeg. Not even a Rye Finish but i can't recall ever having had one. It is very nice has a lot of flavour and is definately an Islay Whisky. I could rule out Caol Ila, Laphroaig and Lagavulin but in the end Ardbeg? Never ever. It is a very nice dram and i am quite sure if people tried it blind without knowing what's coming at them and what's in their glass they would like it. Don't get fooled by the pricing and flipping just taste it and be surprised. True if you don't like the flavour range you won't like it but if you're into Islay Whisky give it a try. Make this try a blind one and the Arrrrrrdbeg will win you over!

Nice to drink. It would be a delicious daily dram if you could afford it.

  8. Dorain scored this whisky 76 points Expert Senior

    Color: light brass
    Aroma: sweet peat note; Perfume; Sea breeze;
Taste: Sweet peat; quite peppery; slightly salty, a hint of citrus zest
    Medium-long finish
Conclusion: A simple south coast whisky from Islay with no real soul or recognition value. Clean peaty whisky, but also quite irrelevant. Did Mickey Heads deserve such a characterless bottling for his departure?

  9. Segens scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

Great nose - too bubbly on the palate and the finish is unfortunately bitter and short. It's a shame somehow ..
