Not sure what the intentions were when crafting this Craigallachie.. feels engineered drifting from dry farmlands and stable aroma’s to an orange fruit mix to end in a winesky corner of modern day whisky land. Yeah sure it’s tasty, but that goes for pretty much most of nowadays whisky.

This is definitely what I would describe as a marmite whisky. The dominant note initially is a very distinct farmyard funk note. I for one love it but I can see others definitely put off by it. Also, the appearance of this is interesting. even at room temperature the liquid appears cloudy. Non-chill filtered indeed! Value (£49) : 8/10
    • Nose
Huge farmyard funk note that I can only describe as a rotting hay or organic compost but not in a bad way (Well not for me at least). Accompanying that is some lovely demarara coated apple crumble and peaches poached in a toffee sauce. Some apricot and honey as well. Light spices with ginger biscuits and nutmeg.
    • Taste
A viscous mouthfeel. On the palate more red fruits appear with plums and morello cherries. A delicate honeyed sweetness throughout. Theres a nice bitterness of grapefruit and some dark chocolate in there balancing it out as well. The toffee coated peaches return giving this some nice syrupiness. Ginger develops into a white pepper heat. That farmyard funk has now developed into a more heavy dark dunnage note. Very nice.
    • Finish
The finish is less sweet and more oak led. Quite drying with oak spice and leather hitting the top palate. Some chocolate and espresso now with just a hint of that grapefruit still around giving it some freshness. A touch of that dunnage funk returns.

A good little Daily dram.. the nose is engaging and fruity the mouth is just as much, a little woody. The finish is rather moderately long. It lacks a few watts despite everything. Otherwise, an excellent whisky for beginners.

Overall: funny. I always give my points one after the other. And I thought to myself: this one falls just shy of absolutely mediocre. And yeah, 49/100 fits it perfectly. Just below average

Delicious daily dram. Very tasty. A bit funky in the nose, so it doesn't get boring anytime soon.
    • Nose
Burnt sugar. Glazed apples. Hayloft. Some ginger and cinnamon. Bit funky, but just the way I like it.
    • Taste
Mild and creamy mouthfeel. Very pleasant drinking strength. Spicy honey. Some oak. Dark jam. Milk chocolate.
    • Finish
Medium length. Oak flavor, but not tart. Makes you want a second sip.

First impression is too much sherry and a little too little Madeira influence. With the second sip, the balance is much better. How good that I have a large sample. The whole package tastes good anyway.

Malty, floral smell. Vanilla and caramel notes. There is also brown cane sugar and a few exotic fruits such as peaches, apricots and pineapples. A few spices like nutmeg, cinnamon and pepper come into their own in the background.
    • Taste
      84 84
This malt appears a bit more oily and thick on the palate. Slightly astringent and the wood influence allows for a bit of bitterness. Slightly peppery, tingling. These exotic fruits no longer appear on the palate and more and more red fruits like strawberries, plums and cherries emerge. The whole thing accompanied by a more intense honey sweetness. This woody bitterness brings a slightly sour citrus note that also brings something fresh at the same time.
    • Finish
      82 82
Short finish, dry with oak seasoning and espresso with lemon.

Nice dram but definitely not more than that. I understand the funky profile mentioned earlier. However, it is not funky enough for me and therefore a bit not.

Pretty some red fruits, not too much alcohol, some sweet notes. Not too complex or mindblowing whisky, but good to go.

Ripe fruits, apples, some sour edge. Honey. Pretty some alcohol, a bit of prunes. Then some floral notes come in. Later on chocolate.
    • Taste
      84 84
Still some fruits, not too alcoholic. Some chocolate. Red fruit. Pretty thick structure, honey.
    • Finish
      84 84
Still quite smooth, red fruits, some more sweetness now, milk chocolate, caramel. Sugar sweetness, pretty long.
