Quality sherry cask, dark fruits, tobacco, raisins, lacks a bit of depth and feels a bit watery on the palate, still very drinkable

  4. Henry Wolf scored this whisky 91 points Expert Senior

Varnish, wild berries, baked notes, light minerality, oak, meat, sulfur, dried fruit, again woody notes, caramel, milk chocolate
Dense, soft, sweetness, acidity in continuation, in the aroma of taste - mushrooms, caramel, sulfur again
Long, dense, in the aroma - cherry, dried fruit, sherbet, leather
It looks like there is youth in this mixture, but the old whisky evens out the forces!
It seems that the Master Blender raised the strength of the old whisky!

Yes, it's a dense, recognizable Macallan profile with a silky texture and it's also a NAS. However, taking into account its cost, I would like to expect more, because in this price segment there is high competition among truly exceptional drinks and it is necessary to be on the level when releasing such releases. It contains old alcohols, which are present in the nose and in the aftertaste, while the taste has enough harshness characteristic of young, not yet matured alcohols. Perhaps this is such a marrying of casks with old alcohols, which could lose their degree, or absorb a lot of oak, which did not allow them to become an independent drink, but it is they that give depth.
    • Nose
      90 90
You can feel dried fruits, fried hazelnuts with shells, roasted candies, that is, dark chocolate, a rather thick aroma, silk, velvet and old skin, a dried bouquet of tea roses and carnations.
    • Taste
      88 88
The taste, although it retains the profile described above, loses a little in its harshness, varnish and bitterness of oak, which dominate at the beginning and, fortunately, give way at the end, bringing the sweetness of prunes and dried red apple to the fore.
    • Finish
      89 89
Characteristic, sweet, with a dryness that makes you want to click your tongue, delicate and long enough.
