The post-aging in Islay barrels actually brings with it a surprising amount of phenolic smoke. Unfortunately in the finish with a strong mustiness that clouds the joy of it a bit.
This slicer also has this buttery honey note, but this time behind a light, somewhat phenolic smoky note. There is also a bit of maltiness and the increased alcohol content can also be felt.
Very oily and surprisingly mild on the tongue. The honey and butter are there too, plus phenolic smoke.
The smoke is most noticeable in the long finish. However, there is now a very musty note behind the smoke that I find unpleasant.
