Interesting and special dram given that there is not much Talisker at this age and in CS around.
Definitely one to play around with water.
    • Nose
      89 89
maritime notes, wet gravel, chalk, scouring agent, with time lemony notes come to the front, followed by iodine and oyster. With water: orange zest.
    • Taste
      88 88
vanilla, chalk, mineral, after one second there is a lot of fruity heat and spice - Jalapeno, szechuan pepper, citrus.
with water: sweeter, smoother, less heat, chili and pepper. ginger and candied fruit.
    • Finish
      89 89
      warming, on chili and salt

I could still get a lot out of the nose, it goes well with autumn. But after that it quickly becomes very uncomfortable.
    • Nose

Not what you might expect, but I like the nose. Very soft and round and zero alcohol, which I would not have expected from the key data. There is a slight pepperiness, but not in the form of alcoholic sharpness. Quite a lot of citrus, but also creamy vanilla, something maritime and a greasy, greasy oiliness that is more reminiscent of Ben Nevis or Deanston than Talisker. The typical Tali smoke is very much in the background here, like the 18 OA, only a little further away.
In the background also something like herbs soaked in honey.
      Unusual, but I like it.

PS Dilution is strongly discouraged, it drowns immediately.
    • Taste
      79 79
Quite mild (and sweet) in the mouth as well, very vanilla-like, the pepperiness builds up gradually, and from the last third it really bites the tongue. A ginger and gin impression. Here I miss the smoke more than in my nose, I have to say. It quickly becomes quite harsh / sharp and a counterpoint is missing.
    • Finish
      73 73
Kind of hollow. Slight sharpness, moderate bitterness, looks frighteningly young and snappy for its age. The wood does not stand out positively either.

Distillate from 2003, poured in 2017 in the amount of 206 bottles in the capacity of 55.8, Bourbon barrels for 17 years of aging and a nice light golden color
Nose: on the nose you can immediately feel the influence of a barrel of citrus fruit, some apples and at the first contact, petrol notes that then completely disappear and only fruit and a light balloon in the background remain.
On the tongue, fruit, citrus, tropical fruit, sweet, vanilla, you can feel such pudding, then some salt and spices appear like pepper, or I would even try chilli, a balloon emphasizes only the flavors is very delicate
Medium-long finish, fruity with spicy and mineral notes
    Nice position at 87

Tried in the 1920s Blenders glass.

I expected a lot from a Talisker as UA.
Actually interesting key data, the result is disappointing for me.
    • Nose
      85 85
A lemony spiciness. Lime and gasoline.
Superficially sharp edges, in the background a slight sweetness. Dried, slightly dusty herbs. Iodine on a gauze bandage.
    • Taste
      83 83
      Mouth filling and peppery.
Somehow Talisker manages to sell the alcohol sharpness as pepper :-)
Looks very young and impetuous, the aromas don't stand a chance and this barrel was definitely already occupied several times before.
    • Finish
      82 82
      Dry, mineral and medium length.
      Bitterness in the end.

I did not recognize this Talisker in a blind tasting. The otherwise typical smoke is completely absent here. The chilli catch can be seen in the finish after a while, when you know what to look for.
    • Nose
Honey. Toffee. Vanilla. Sweet toasted almonds.
      Lychee. Mon Cheri cherry.
    • Taste
Oily. Honey. (burnt) caramel. Freshly roasted coffee beans.
    • Finish
      Spicy. Ginger. Oak.

    Delicious!
    • Nose
Notes from an online blind tasting ...

      Colour:
      gold

      Nose:
Starts with a nice forest aroma. Moss, leaves, some essential oils, wet stone, earth. Behind it a bit of vinous sweetness and vanilla.
With a little time in the glass it becomes fruity and sweeter. In addition, cooling mint.

The empty glass smells of pear and nutmeg.
    • Taste
Soft start. Then a pleasant heat and tough honey. Grain, dry wood and again the mineral-earthy one. Bitter tart pear. Nevertheless, the creamy taste remains. Black tea.
    • Finish
Medium length. Sweetish and a little mineral. Plus a pinch of pepper.

  10. Tom na Gruagaich scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

Blindly not recognizable as whisky from the presumed distillery, where is the maritime, the peat, everything gone, but a very dense, spicy ex-bourbon barrel paints. Exciting.
    • Nose
Nice and fruity, very spicy, honey, subtle acidity, green oak, I like it very much.
    • Taste
A bit hot on its own, needs some water, a nice interplay between beautiful sweetness and the rather spicy wood notes, without being clearly separable in terms of aroma.
    • Finish
Acid and dry oak, surprisingly a lot of wood, whereby the sweetness always floats with it.

Thanks for my friend and I can taste this 00s undisclosed Talisker in a 5cl sample.

Very spicy for this alcohol strength. Plastic and peppery. Quite a unusual Talisker for me.

It is hard to understand why this bottle is so diffcult to get. Worth to try in a sample, but not in a bottle.

  13. DocF scored this whisky 84 points Expert Senior

I found it to be quite lame, not very smoky and in particular hardly tasted of Talisker, Ottonormal-dry wooden hogshead with a hint of smoke.

The 2 years and rather hypothetical ~ 15 € for the (excellent) 15yo Special Release don't make the cake fat anymore.

-> Nothing missed, around 84 points.

Pear, apple, citrus, vanilla, lime, iodine, only very subdued the martitime note typical of Talisker

      nice caramel sweetness with water
    • Taste
      86 86
Chilli, candied oranges, lemon and ginger, abstringent, flavored black tea
    • Finish
      85 85
peppery, woody and spicy finish, medium length

On the nose spicy and sweet at the same time. Spekulatius (Gingerbread) and beef jerky filled nachos.
    .
On the palate a bit dirty, a lot going on. The distillery character is strong in this one. Classic chili catch and some strong oolong tea. Lovely!

This malt leaves me pensive, because as a Talisker I would not have recognized him blindly. No really noticeable smoke, no maritime notes. Only the warming, distinct peppery spice (chilli catch) in the finish is reminiscent of Talisker. Overall, a delicious, fresh, fruity malt with a strong, peppery spiciness and fresh wood as a good counterpoint. A very interesting experience in terms of Talisker.
... Even if I expect a slightly different profile with more smoke and maritime notes with a Talisker in the glass.
    • Nose
      86 86
quite restrained / mild in the nose; where is the maritime smoke? - smoke is not really noticeable here; fresh and fruity; Nashi pear; Apples; Citrus notes; Vanilla; some caramel; a touch of glue
      - Very special Talisker, I would not have blindly recognized him as this. Fresh, fruity malt without a maritime character and really noticeable smoke
    • Taste
      86 86
oily-creamy mouthfeel; sweet-sour, fresh-fruity; green apples; some nashi pear; a strong, tingling peppery spiciness arises (Chili-Catch); fresh wood (sawdust)
    • Finish
      87 87
tingling peppery-spicy and warming (yes, the Talisker Chili-Catch) it lies in the mouth and esophagus for a long time; tender fresh fruit; slightly tart notes; fresh wood
