Fruity whisky. Slightly sharp on the palate. Well done for a 3 year old.

Fresh and fruity. Flower meadow, light fruits. malt sweetness. garden herbs. Light, young grapes.
    • Taste

Creamy start. Then pretty peppery. fruit acid. herbs and spices. Subtle light grape and fruit notes. Here the youth of the whisky is clearly noticeable.

White pepper, becomes drier. spiciness and tannins. Short.

Nc'nean, a young distillery on the Movers Peninsula across from the Isle of Mull. Organic whisky is produced, the production is CO2 neutral. This is definitely promising, and the expectations for the first batches are correspondingly high.

    • Nose
Of course it is young aromas that come out of the glass here. The bright fruits, clear pear and ripe apple are unmistakable. The fruits are fairly pure, there are no acrid tones, and the alcohol does not stand out. But there is also sweetness and even aromas of oak, which is certainly due to the STR (shaved, toasted, recharred) casks.
    • Taste
In the taste, the alcohol is then clearer, but not disturbing. Here, too, young aromas that are not yet fully interwoven. But there are also nuttiness and some oak, also some bitterness.

Overall, the aromas are still young and immature. Certainly better than some other new whiskys - but not yet round and nearly mature.
    • Finish
The whisky has a slightly dry aftertaste with some oak. After three years no real depth can come yet...

Nc'nean is one of the distilleries responsible for launching the late Dr. Jim Swan were advised. Accordingly, STR casks are used, which, due to their preparation, release the aromas to the distillate even after a short maturation. Accordingly, the whisky already shows a certain elegance, which is also based on a distillation geared towards the purity and fruitiness of the distillate. Thus, the burning or stinging aromas of some young whiskys are missing, which would only be transformed in further years of cask aging.

Overall it is a young whisky that continues to raise expectations. Not only is the setting of the distillery and the design of the bottle unique here - the first whisky is also good here and raises many hopes for a new whisky that will hopefully become very interesting over the years.

I think this whisky was bottled too early, a little more time in the barrel will do it well.

on the nose emphatically fruity, spicy, flowery.
Strong spiciness in the taste and the STR casks emerge.
There are of course a few differences to the previous batches. Personally, I don't find any stark differences ...
It is and remains a 3-year-old ... but ideal for the coming (early) summer.
[85 - 81 = delicious -> get a second bottle if price is within the range]
    • Nose
Icing sugar together with light / yellow fruits of apple, pear, apricot.
Green (wine) grapes in the background. Over time, the aroma also becomes more spicy. In addition, some herbs appear.
With even more air: mowed meadow of flowers and hay.
Also feels like a walk in the forest after it has rained and it is still slightly damp in the forest.
    • Taste
especially gentle at the start, but then the youthful flavor pushes in compactly.
Peppery spice spreads on the tongue and releases more and more dryness from the spice to the tongue.
The fruits tend to stay in the background at first.
Second sip: the fruits from the nose are now full again. There is also a slight acidity from the wine barrels - for me it is more like a white wine barrel.
    • Finish
The spice stays in the mouth, gets drier and drier, the STR casks come through and bring tannins with them.
Actually persists for a long time with this batch.
