Good beginner. The nose is great, then the wood is almost a bit too dominant, the fruits could have had more say.
    • Nose
Fruity, jelly pear, pineapple, almost tropical, with a little oak. Sweet, but successful.
    • Taste
Mild & round. First comes a barrage of oak, then the fruity flavors set, while then again the nutty oak takes over the word.
    • Finish
Bittersweet, relatively much wood, nice nutty finish.

  2. Magnus Hillman scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

Quite impressed by the fact that this is diluted to 40%, but the appearance is not weak but instead rich and full of flavors and character. Never really experienced a bad Aberlour when I think about it, great whisky for under 40 Euro.

    Rating interval 83-86p.
    • Nose
Fruity with orange, pineapple, pear and honey melon with loads of vanilla pudding and caramel. After a while gentle notes of oak and leather are coming through together with raisins and roasted almonds.
    • Taste
Soft and slightly fruity arrival with sweetness from brown sugar, almost molasses. Vanilla and caramel again on the development with lemons, raisins and spicy with cloves and pepper. After a while even coffee appears, instant coffee.
    • Finish
The finish is vaguely oaky and spicy with cloves in particular giving an aromatic impression, raisins and prunes followed by bitter citrus like grapefruit and bitter orange again. Sure it’s a bit short but it doesn’t really matter.

    Notes from 12/13/14:

Nose: Nicely balanced. Honey, apricot, malty, grassy, slightly dusty.
Palate: Round, slight salt, almost touching on rancio, a bit sweet but with enough oak to add a spicy dryness.
Finish: Drier, nutty, whiff of smoke.

The first Single Malt in my collection ! I've heard a lot of good opinions regarding Aberlour 12Y and I received many recommendations, that this whisky is a very good choice for beginners. I have to say, I confirm all good things I've heard and I recommend it further :) Aberlour 12Y has very nice presence and 'stocky' bottle together with the tube is a perfect match for me. Whisky is sweet, fruity, easy to drink, it is perfect for beginners because you have willingness to try others single malts after Aberlour 12Y and this whisky for sure won't discourage any beginner. Liquid in the glass has deep, golden colour with some 'ruby' hints, it's similar to ripe orange fruit. Nosing profile: deep; sweet; raisins; red, fruity, ripe apples; dried fruit; fruit cake; sherry; a bit of alcoholic hints. Taste is a continuation of smell - sweet but mild, a little bit spicy; ginger; some chocolate elements; toffee; brown sugar. Finish is for me too short unfortunately, but it's warm, nicely spicy, sweet at the same time, we can find here also some hints of wooden-oak barrel. Rating (scale 0-5): 4/5 Rating (scale 100 pts): 81/100 (nose: 22, taste: 20, finish: 19, balance:20)

Nothing too fancy, just beyond acceptable.
